Spanish men are always very handsome. Some of them have Mediterranean pigmentation but almost Irish-like features and I think it's a good combination.
He reminds me a bit of Levi Johnston, Bristol Palin's baby daddy.

We don't hear much about figure skating in Australia, I often think that's a shame. He's really beautiful.

Actually he's straight.. he's dating Canadian figure skater Cortney Mansour (he's training in Toronto).
That said.. I know this sounds like tinhatting, but there's loads of reasons to stay in the closet, even in figure skating. He's basically skating for Skate Canada right now, and they're a very homophobic organization. And he could lose a lot of sponsors if he came out.
I know he said he's straight and everything, but fuck it.. you know what, I agree, he pings. I was actually shocked when I found out he's straight. I know I shouldn't stereotype or whatever, but I thought he was gay.
Meh.. at the end of the day he's European, Spanish to be exact.. many Europeans lean both ways. I wouldn't be surprised if he has hooked up with some guys before. Again, this is me just tinhatting and speculating though. The official word is he's straight, unfortunately

Miss Evan Lysachek dated a girl, too- and we all know about beards here at JUB.....If a figure skater can't come out- a football player NEVER will!!!!! I think more people would be suprsed to hear a figure skater is str8 than a football player's gay- people/sponsors need to grow up- it's 2013- not 1983- I'm so sick of the too scared to come out bull shit- I have ZERO respect for anyone who lets someone else force them to psychologically scar themsleves for years all to make a little money!

Yes he's hot!!!! And Damnn good! Holy shit his quads are a lot more stable than Brian Joubert's !!!! Been watching the senior skating for years and he's the one that slipped under my radar surprisngly. Anyways, I also get a little vibe from him being gay as well but alas as you mentioned I heard he's str8.

Yes Skate Canada is one of the most homophobic organizations out there. (US is up there but that's a different story) Partly, Patrick Chan's parents are to blame for this. I read somewhere they keep pushing on the masculine campaign they have there. A lot of gay canadian skater has stopped due to this silly shitz
I feel bad for some of them as some of they haven't achieved or went into olympics yet and some are still quite young. (25 ish) Yeah and sponsorships in this sport are very hard to get by. I personally know a few skaters that have been competing for years (juniors) and still haven't got sponsors

Yes indeed. But what about that hair? Somehow figure skaters almost always have this awful look of way too much hair gel and and backwards greased hair.

Hmm.. well, I've seen a pic of Javi kissing his girlfriend. He also said hi to her during a kiss & cry. I honestly don't know.. maybe he really is straight. I agree with you, he does ping. I thought he was gay the first time I saw him, but it's mostly based on stereotypes. He might just be a slightly effeminate straight guy. Those exist too. Trust me, I want him to be gay. But I'm not sure if he is.
I think it's unfair to be mad at him for not coming out though. First of all, we don't even know if he's gay. Second, if he's closeted and bearding, he's doing it for a reason. It's easy for us to judge. Don't get me wrong.. I don't condone bearding, I think it's disgusting. But in some cases they really don't have a choice. He's training in Canada, and Skate Canada is an organization run by fundies. They're very homophobic. I don't think it's a coincidence that most of the gay skaters quit during a two year span. Sometimes skaters and other athletes don't have a choice.. they're forced to stay in the closet and beard up because of pressure and for the potential loss of sponsor money if they do come out. When it comes to Javi there's also a third possibility, he might be bi. I've seen how affectionate he is towards other male skaters. Then again.. it might just be because he's Spanish. They're all touchy feely down there.
Meh.. I honestly don't know. Maybe he is straight. I don't think it really matters though, at the end of the day he's still the same guy. He's still cute and very talented!

Yeah, you're right. It has been done a lot in the past, but meh.. I don't care. I kinda forget that when I watch him skate anyway. And it was his big break through, he won the euro gold, so his Chaplin program will always be special to me

Yep. He's very inconsistent. That's his main problem. He can be on fire, but most of the time he does stupid mistakes. I'm sick and tired of him always getting 4th place. I know he has so much talent. But somehow he keeps messing up.. sigh
Hopefully the euro gold will give him some confidence though, maybe it was the push he needed. I'm not expecting gold at the worlds.. I don't think he's good enough, the japanese are too good. But a bronze might be within range, if he does as well as he did at the euros. It will be interesting for sure.

I think you're mistaken. According to wikipedia men's short program is the 13th and their free skate is the 15th.

Re: Javier Fernandez (Spanish figure skater)
Javi is in 7th place after the short program. Not ideal at all. It will be nearly impossible to medal now. Not that I'm surprised. I knew it was a bad sign when he was struggling with his jumps at practice. He's also way too inconsistent in general. He can be really good, he's got great potential, and he showed it at the european championships. But he's just not performing at that level often enough, unfortunately. It's such a shame, because he's a good skater when he wants to be, I usually love his programs, and this season's program is incredible, especially the Chaplin routine. I just wish he was more consistent that's all.
I've lowered my expectations now. Medal seems unlikely, but he can still probably reach a top 5 if he does well on his Free Skate, which is what I hope. Top 5 is also his own goal, so I hope he can accomplish that. Hopefully he'll be more consistent next year, maybe he'll do better at the worlds then.
On the bright side.. he's still pretty, so at least he's got that going for him, despite his highly variable results in figure skating..

OMG he did it! I think I'm gonna cry. He fucking went ahead and won bronze! I'm sooo proud of him! Can you imagine, he was in 7th place after the short program. I thought a medal was impossible, but he did it! He skated an excellent free skate and that moved him up 4 places, to third. I'm just.. I have no words right now. Can you even imagine where he would have placed if he did a better short program? Gold for sure! Third place is amazing though, I'm so happy!

dud- calm down- it's a bronze, not Olympic gold.... with the new system- people pull up from 6/7th all the time- mainly because lack of consistency- meaning only 2 skaters per competition can skate 2 good routines- all the others screw up 1....glad he did well, though

Because of top ten finish- US will get 2 skaters at Olympics.... If I saw Denis Ten- I might remember him, but the name doesn't ring a bell. The scoring system is so out of whack- the only good thing about it is how you can pull up, but the way they overscore favorites, step series and twizzles over quads, etc is rdiculous!

Re: Javier Fernandez (Spanish figure skater)
There are not much skaters from the middle east and usually they don't rank on the podium so they can be forgettable unless you watch the whole competition. I always remember him as the guy who can do biellman when I first saw him. (He's under Tatiana that time) I agree they always change the scoring system every year. Usually every season they make minor changes. Am glad they change the spin req for guys though. I got really tired of seing guys spamming sit and back sit spins as their combo spins/ solo spins when their camel positions are really shaky/bad. Personally I think one of the difficult changes is to include flying spins during combination spins. I could never really get how they work the scoring. I went to read their official scoring sheet for each skaters sometimes the bias is so obvious. Esp when some skaters gets a lot of GOE +

yes- it was necessary- you're getting totally carried away.... about 100 different skaters have won bronze at the Worlds- their's were accomplishments, too- but hardly worth a ticker tape parade....the'fuck off' makes you soud klike a Bieberette- unable to hear anything negative- even when it wasn't wholly negative- you seem a little blinded with adoration!
