From USA Today:
Tim Tebow cancels appearance at church of controversial pastor
http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon...ermon/1926135/
"new information"While I was looking forward to sharing a message of hope and Christ's unconditional love with the faithful members of the historic First Baptist Church of Dallas in April, due to new information that has been brought to my attention, I have decided to cancel my upcoming appearance. I will continue to use the platform God has blessed me with to bring Faith, Hope and Love to all those needing a brighter day. Thank you for all of your love and support. God Bless!![]()
Of course the ASSumption is negative
Not sure how the bandwagon members find real joy with that kind of mentality
Perhaps (imagine) given the attention that TT did some deep dive
Perhaps
It's wicked cold in NYC
Of course misspelled word
U wud say that
Implied insult word of the day used out of context wink
Maybe
Sad exaggeration divorced with reality

Chance you say this as though people constantly "mis-assume" that far right wing churches are innocently mistaken as the source of so much of the anti-gay sentiment in this country. They are the source of so much of the anti-gay sentiment in this country. When you say these things as if we grabbed some victim at random it makes me wonder where you think anti-gay sentiment comes from.
I had actually forgot about it until I seen it online. I thought he was suppose to be the next big thing in football but he never makes the news with anything concerning football. It seems no one does research nowaways, they just blindly accept offers. I'm sure if no one made a fuss about it, he would have done his speech but since he has an "image" he has to be careful.

ANECDOTE ALERT:
I have worked for Fundamentalist Christians. They were dogmatic and ruthless but they could hide behind the translucent veil of their notion of Christianity. All prejudice aside, they were pretty pathetic. I'm sure one would find some individuals who would not wish that all homosexuals would die, but I believe they are few and far between.
It was probably because of the anti-Semitism rather than the homophobia...
Everyone knows that hate is not made equal in America.
Still, Tebow has not said expressly why he cancelled. This is a victory for real gay power!
As someone who was born, raised, and knows the History of Dallas the First Baptist Church of Dallas isn't locally known for their "anti-Semitism."
They just preach the Evangelical Message of God, which is (as Southern Baptists) they're the only group going to heaven, and if you're a Methodist you're just as damned as the rest of us.
It's clear that Tim Tebow doesn't have the "faith" in his own convictions.

I forgot how powerful we gays are in the world. We cause natural disasters and cause people to have second thoughts about spewing hate speech or just speaking their mind and yet here we are trying to get equal rights when apparently we run the world.

^ Because "logic and reason" never support ignorance, and "crowd control."
It's much easier for them to call themselves "victim" while they have their boot on your throat.
It never ceases to amaze me the number of strangers, friends, and family who've bought into that lie.
Gay's are the "witches" by the way.
Just in case that isn't apparent to the "closet class" posting in this thread.

One can only wonder which Bible verse he will choose to paint under his eyes at his next game with the....
(Oh, FUCK, like *I* know ! I live to hear who has thrown what ball through which apparatus... ;-) )
Still, when you think about it, that practice is SO odd. I happen to find To Kill a Mockingbird an especially inspirational book, but I wouldn't go out in public with "Atticus Finch" painted on my forehead.
It's just so bizarre.
"Cryin' won't help ya
Prayin' won't do you no good..."
Opposing cornerbacks should paint "Austin 3:16" on their faces.
Because in all likelihood, given Tebow's passing accuracy, they probably just whipped his ass.

^ It's curious you should say that. (Veering OT for a moment)
Just today in traffic I was behind a Toyota Rav4 that had a silver licence plate frame with the fish with "Jesus" written in the middle of it thing... It was a fairly good-sized chunk of chrome (or whatever material it was) and it looked like it cost at least a small chunk of change.
Since I had to spend quite a bit of time behind this car, my mind wandered off to thinking what would be the reasoning behind the owners going out of their way to install this thing on the back of their vehicle.
Are they advertising the fact that they are Christians ? Do they think someone will see it and suddenly "see the light" ? Or, is it used as some sort of imaginary safety device ? Like those old plastic Jesus' stuck to the dashboard or wearing a picture of Saint Whomever around their necks ?
I can honestly say I arrived at no answer.

^ not sure why you should care one way or the other
why would a gay guy have a rainbow flag on his car ?
intolerance works in many ways
Reasoning?

One only has to look at this church to see this pastor's hatred goes well beyond gays. It also includes Catholics,Jews, and Mormons, something I'm pretty sure Tebow knew before he agreed to do this speech there.
You need to read my post, chance1, before going on a faux outrage over my comments. Where did I say I have a problem with people who consider God (that's with a capital G, show a little respect) a big part of their lives? In case I wasn't clear enough, I am a Christian myself, and God is a very big part of my life. I go to church more than you, or Tim Tebow, and I am disturbed by how most Americans put an idolatrous obsession over sports instead of being at church on Sunday. So I find a phoniness to any highly-paid sports figure who claims God is favoring them to win over a sports game that keeps millions of Americans out of church.

Oh well served there, Sir.
If people spent more time listening to the words and paying attention to the deeds of Christ himself, instead of listening to the Pharisees, the whores and the cynical marketers of hate and intolerance in His name.....we'd all be way better off.

Backing off is sorta not my thing

Your dislike for TT is not very Christian
Yours and others spewing against TT is lame

I enjoy watching both football and baseball, but I'm really not interested in players' personal lives. I neither like nor dislike TT. I can only formulate an opinion of someone based on what I see and what I hear. I think TT is just a pain in the neck, with or without his cancelled appearance at Robert Jeffress' church.![]()
^ and his charitable work ?
Tim Tebow is an over rated piece of shit with horrible views on mankind... he deserves the shit storm he gets served up.... half-rate, bench-warming, no-talent hack.

I was just wondering if everyone who's hating on Tebow for his views is totally genuine? I know people there are people who will hate on one celebrity for their anti-gay views while overlooking a favorite rapper, athlete, etc for their anti-gay views. It always amazes me when somebody says something like, "I hate Public Enemy. They are so homophobic. Oh, but I love Eminem."

No, I was just curious. But it's true; if you are going to hate on Tebow for anti-gay or percieved anti-gay sentiment, then there is a whole catalogue of celebrities you have to hate on. If you want to hate on him for his ball playing, have at it.

There's a great article by RZ Granderson on ESPN.com about the whole Tebow thing....it's much more fair to Tebow in this instance than most of the usual suspects of self righteous progressive condescension and if they want to open up their superior minds to it, link on it then. Tebow has done nothing as of yet to generate the nastiness he gets from most here, he starts talking like those bigoted supposed Christians he would deserve to get trashed. He has done nothing of that sort yet... all this personal "faux" outrage against chance in particular on this is typical of the ilk on the left we have here, and I don't give a fucking shit about them anymore. Never about engagement, or real dialogue or attempt at understanding divergent perspectives ... just get on the progressive train or you're a dolt or evil incarnate. The left who say life is shades of grey... not black and white. Not right and wrong. Yet deviate one millimeter from what is politically acceptable and feel their wrath. Chance, keep on being a voice who just won't follow the herd, no matter what. We need centrists, independent, intellectually honest liberals and thoughtful conservatives here... you're unique and valuable here despite all those who enthusiastically make chance hunting an Olympic level sport.
Amazing things ahead for the Mets ....hosts of the MLB All Star Game in 2013
CHANCE, YOU ARE PRECIOUS!!!!!!!!1
Seriously, guy, the whole "herd" argument is a horse beaten to death. It is a joke, and one that's really really tired. Literally all issues that "the left" on here is of a single mind about, are related to gay rights. On everything else, we diverge. It's not a "herd mentality" when similar minded people share a worldview and agree on many things, and NOBODY persecutes anyone who doesn't agree on "what's politically acceptable". That's such conservative propaganda-speech that I am just embarrassed for you right now. And then you go about pretending to be "moderate". Another tired joke.

^ all of 3 minutes to ingest sausy's points .......... and respond in a reasoned manner
tough for anyone i imagine in 5 - u did it in 3
cheers for exposing the absurdity that is the concept of u responding in a fair or reasoned manner - u can't even take a moment to read and THINK
as for sausy, no truth to the rumor that he is on retainer from chance & co. - i swear that his words are his own - and they're all 100% true
as for TT, love the suggestion above (quickly dismissed by bandwagoneers) that the standard that TT, a christian is held to, somehow is not utilized elsewhere
a killer point - a true point - the quick dismissal says it all
picture fingers in ears - lalalalalalalalalala
face it - the 85 are the 15 and the 15 are the 85 - in reason

I disliked him way before any discussion of him being "homophobic" because his entire crafted identity seemed to be based around huge public spectacles of his religion in front of the crowd. I find it tacky and gross, and manipulative. He's got enormous fandom for literally nothing but showing off his religion. He's not a very good pro player.
^Bump
I've got some good news and some bad news.
Bad News: TT won't be speaking at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.
Good News: TT set to speak at conference sponsored by Liberty University.* Praise the Lord!
