Have you seen your nation leader (president, king, queen, emperor, etc.) in person?

I just did, like 15 minutes ago. He was inspecting what was supposed to be the best hospital in the country. He came almost without notice, so it was quite incidental.

Then some of my co-workers were discussing about the President coming, which they were not sure about. I told them that I saw him, and they went crazy, saying it was damn cool and told me to describe him in detail.

Funny I felt lukewarm about this.

Anyway, have you seen your nation leader in person? And how?

i've only seen him in tv and pictures. almost got a chance to see bill clinton back when he was running for reelection back in 96. we passed by there that day where they had the stage set up and everything on moris avenue in union right by the town hall. my father had work that day and we were with him, going to fucking brooklyn.

Not the current one. I wouldn't walk as far as my front window to watch Harper drive past. However, I got to see our government sitting in the House of Commons when I was in high school. That was an experience I remember to this day.

I don't consider the president the national leader. He is a leader, and the leader of the executive branch of the federation, but certainly not the national leader, especially when the U.S is not a nation-state. As a strong believer in republicanism (as in non-monarchy; not the party) I always feel unsettled when people group presidents in the same boat as they would with queens, kings, or emperors. Sorry for being the pedant I am, but I wanted to clarify that. Anyway, the highest political representative I've met was a house of representative member although Bill Clinton did come to my high school a few years ago and I did see him from a distance (of course he wasn't president; Obama was.)

He's not a 'leader', but he is a prince. Prince Andrew, the Queen's second son. He attended Lakefield College, about a 15 minute drive north of Peterborough. He was a common sight around Peterborough and still drops by for a visit whenever he's in the area. He is, in fact, the Royal Patron of the Canadian Canoe Museum here.

I met our president few months ago and shook his hand and also the first lady's.

It was when he was campaigning for re-election and I went to one of their campaign events.

The reason why I shook their hands is that they were both at the door to greet their supporters. It's a small country so the political structure is a little more laid back here but I was still very pleasantly surprised that they would do that.

I'm very proud to have been able to shake his hand because in my opinion he's our greatest president since our independence. Mainly because how he has stood by the people during the financial crisis.

The only president I've seen in person was Mr. Reagan. He was giving a speech during his 1984 reelection campaign just down the block from my elementary school, so we were trooped down to see him, followed by a discussion afterwards of the campaign issues of the day. The nuns believed we should be politically aware.

I saw Kevin Rudd (former Aussie PM) having coffee/drinks with a young bloke (must be his son) a few years back when I was strolling along Circular Quay in Sydney.

Also saw Queen Elizabeth II when I visited Toronto in summer of 2010 - her convoy passed by as I was about to cross a street in downtown Toronto, the window of her car was pulled down and I was looking at this old lady inside but didn't realise after a few while that it was her. It was early Sunday morning, very few people around, looked like she was heading for the Sunday service. Hubby was seated next to her.
