The Menendez boys were cute, too. That didn't stop them from offing their parents. He is innocent until proved guilty, but I won't be surprised if he's found guilty.
Shocking! His story at the summer Olympics was inspiring and emotional. This is unbelievable.
I hope it is just a misunderstanding... but one thing for sure, penally guilty or not, HE will havve to live with what he did for the rest of his life...
According to the SA police, there have been other 'incidents':
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/paralympic-...064211619.htmlPistorius, 26, and his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, had been the only people in the house at the time of the shooting, police brigadier Denise Beukes told reporters, adding witnesses had been interviewed about the early morning incident.
"We are talking about neighbors and people that heard things earlier in the evening and when the shooting took place," Beukes said outside the heavily guarded residential complex.
Police said a 9mm pistol had been found at the scene.
Beukes said police were aware of previous incidents at the Pistorius house. "I can confirm that there has previously been incidents at the home of Mr Oscar Pistorious, of allegations of a domestic nature," she said.
damn, son.
one thing about the closet/you don't have to hurry/it will be bad tomorrow/so brother, don't you worry![]()
^ What exactly do you find funny about this?
Hmmm...I really hope not. What a feel good story he brought to the Olympics. And now (possibly) this...
Not that I condone murder, but sometimes she just won't shut up.
Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.
Give a man religion, and he'll starve praying for a fish.
I have always thought sports events with the handicapped were somewhat in poor taste and now my opinion seems to be vindicated by this distasteful incident.

^ They're athletes just like 'regular' Olympians. Why should they be denied the competition?
Will never forget the emotion felt in the crowd when he stepped onto the track at the London Olympics.
Sad incident.
Happy Valentine's Day.![]()

Beautiful couple. An accomplished woman with a promising future, now dead. Another example of why it's dangerous to have a gun around the house.
Shocking and Horrible.
Will they let him keep his legs in prison? He could take them off and use it as a deadly weapon.![]()
She's not dead because he owns a gun, she's dead recause she stayed in an ongoing relationship with a violent person. If he didn't have a gun he would have still killed her. He just would have stabbed, strangled, or beat her to death. Dead is dead, makes little difference how she got that way.
Its also been reported that it was a Valentine's Day surprise gone wrong. She might have been killed by accident
Yesterday, Reeva Steenkamp, Pistorius's girlfriend, tweeted to him:
Apparently, murder is what he had up his sleeve. What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow??? #getexcited #ValentinesDay

Yes, exactly. If you want you or your loved ones to die of murder, one of the best ways to accomplish that is to keep a gun in the house.
I suspect Pistorius regrets the day he bought that gun.
I felt so guilty when I saw the clip on the evening news because I couldn't stop thinking how cute he was.
So sad. RIP.
This was on yesterday's Today show . . . . Smart Gun. A gun that only works with one person (you wear a microchip that enables the gun but it will not work even if someone tries the grab the gun from you

Oscar Pistorius denies murder of Reeva Steenkamp in 'strongest terms'
Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has denied murdering his girlfriend in the "strongest terms" and offered his "deepest sympathies" to her family.
...
Pistorius, 26, broke down and wept uncontrollably in court as prosecutors said they would pursue a charge of premeditated murder against him. He is accused of shooting dead Steenkamp, a model and reality TV show participant, at his home in the early hours of Thursday morning.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013...-murder-chargeWhat's going on.
I'm kinda hoping that he didn't do it. I guess it's still a possibility.
The jury or magistrate gets to judge, but the details seem to be getting out that he chased her into the bathroom and shot her through the door, four times, hardly a credible mixup about perceived burglary.
Sounds like a murder.
Heroes fail.
He just undermined a world of good. Such a bright start to fall. How tragic for all involved.

Take it from a fellow South African that met him on a couple of occasions already. He was inspirational to a lot of people but he was and still is a very arrogant and jealous person and could get angry and aggressive very quickly. He is guilty and don't have a leg to stand on (pardon the pun). Did you see his girlfriend if I where straight I would also have shot four times but not with a loaded gun in my hand! How the hell could you mistake someone like that for an intruder. Sorry to say this of a person all South African's where proud of but yes he is guilty.

Hero worship aside, at least he ascended to great heights before falling so hard.
Those in daunting circumstances can yet take away from his example that humans overcome the very worst.
Cold comfort.
The thread is about a murdered girlfriend of the most famous handicapped athlete in the world.
Encouraging it to roll off into the ditch of the gun debate is only going to derail the main topic. Rethink bringing the fight to this thread. There are plenty of bullet-riddled corpses of other threads in Hot Topics and CE&P for that.
Yeah, I was just thinking the murder needed more comic relief. We were all thinking this thread really needed stand up comedy to make it complete. Nah, it's not too soon.
Too bad about that gal that got shot four times by her lover, huh? I'd bet she'd be laughing along with us right now, if she were alive.
It's really a shame we can't post about that five year old who was kidnapped and kept in a bunker for a week. I was just thinking of some humorous parallels about his suffering, too.
Nice work.

The reports all seem to confirm that he was sorely troubled.
All those who rebut the consquences of lax gun regulations should consider that if he didn't have the guns he may only have slapped her, not shot her.
There was a very telling interview with him from 2007 where the reporter stated that his temper blew up very easily but that afterwards he had 'forgotten' about it.
Whether they can make the premeditated murder charge stick (and I very much doubt it) he was alone in the apartment with his girlf when she was shot. There is no doubt he killed her.
From the circumstances presented to us, he shot her. Pretty boys commit crimes too.Man up boys, there will still be plenty of us pretty ones about...................................
I think we might as well just hang him.
Remember Hansie Cronje ?
It's pretty sad and shocking....obviously huge news here in S.A.... interested in what he has to say...
Being a white guy in a SA prison, that will be the least of his worries.

Pretty boy is gonna be passed around?
Don't know how it is over there but in some countries celebrities can get special treatment because they are in increased risk of being harassed. Similar to what people who were in law enforcement get.

I don't believe disabled prisoners are put in with the general population. At least I hope they aren't.
They forfeit their right to be treated like a human.

At Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, an inmate with 80 percent hearing loss was denied a hearing aid and then disciplined for failing to listen to deputies' directions.
In Santa Barbara County, a bipolar and suicidal parole violator said he was denied the medication he had received while in prison.
In Sacramento County, a blind parole violator was denied a tapping cane, forcing him to rely on inmates and deputies to escort him to the toilet, the showers and meals. He had been permitted a cane in prison.
In Los Angeles County, a paralyzed parolee reported that deputies replaced her custom wheelchair with a broken one, tying her feet to the footrests to keep them from dragging, then gave her a cell with a door that was not wide enough for a wheelchair. Deputies later returned her personal wheelchair.
In Tulare County, an inmate with swollen legs from chronic liver disease reported that deputies had confiscated his cane. In prison, he had been allowed to use a cane.
Also in Tulare County, a parole violator scheduled for knee replacement surgery was given an upper bunk; he fell 11 times while trying to climb onto his bed, he said. In prison, he had been assigned a lower bunk.
In Butte County, a deaf inmate said he could not communicate with medical staff about an ear infection because the jail did not provide a sign language interpreter.
Woodford was asked by the prisoners' attorneys to review jail polices and the prisoners' complaints. She said many county jails are now in the same position the state prisons were before the Armstrong case was filed.
Everybody should get humane punishment, including killers.
I think the vindictive drive in punishment comes from this notion. If punishment is humane for inhumane acts (and there have been plenty), then the system is inherently unjust.
As barbaric as it is to argue for an eye for an eye, anything less just comes across to a victim (or a victim's survivors) as unjust because it is inherently an unequal punishment.
Civility via social, moral, and religious codes, teaches us to be altruistic, humane, or forgiving to some degree, but basic human instinct is to exact revenge.
You state the obvious in arguing for civility in jurisprudence; I argue the conflict that constantly surfaces in humans when facing the real experience.
The way I see it the justice system should be about protecting society rather than being about revenge and satisfying peoples blood thirst.
The justice system should be above the behavior of killers and rapists, not on the same level.
