String of killings of gay men in NYC

Four gay men 40s-60s in age have been killed in NYC. First murder happened in October when a 62 year old gay activist was attacked my two men. The recent murders happened a week apart both in borough of Queens. Police now believe at least 3 incidents might be connected and are linked to online dating sites. Hopefully there will be strong leads for cops from the recent murders one in a motel with security cameras and evidence from cellphones.

“Let people know, ‘I’m going to be hooking up online tonight,’” Anti-Violence Project Deputy Director Ejeris Dixon said, as a word of advice. ”[Ask them] can you call me in a couple of hours?’ and it’s that simple.”

It may not be much I swear gay men should travel in pairs, especially at night, if you live in large gay areas (you would think that would be the most safe place). I think they should also carry a weapon of some sort even if you just have your keys sticking between your fingers.

dunno about that. new york for the most part is a fairly safe place compared to how it was 20 years ago. new york is becoming yuppiesville anyway. try coming over to the other side of the river to new jersey's cities such as newark, trenton or the worst of the worst, camden. hell, there's tons of cities with a million people that is way more dangerous than new york such as chicago or philadelphia. both known murder zones.

these didn't happen where tourists would go---and anyone picking up from Craigs list or the internet is taking a risk---tourists do think the city is safe everywhere (and it is not) and go places that are dangerous----I mean I wouldn't go to Paris London Rome and walk around in the middle of the night alone or with a guy in any major city---they insinuated that the men may have picked up some thuggish types---this has always been not such a good idea.

I usually carry a legal knife on me or in my car... not a switchblade but thought of getting one. A switchblade with a 2 inch or bigger blade is illegal here in California though.

This story is sad. If one were to use a dating service, it's good to meet someone in a very public setting... but it's pretty much why I gave up on online dating a LONG TIME AGO.
