    Giving something up for lent

I haven't looked if someone posted about this last year.

Is it a tradition with you to give something up for 40 days for lent?

I'm going to stop relying on my friends, whenever I do I get let down so can't be bothered any more.

    What are you doing?

I gave up giving up for Lent when I gave up Catholicism for Lent...and for ever.

That's a tough thing to give up for Lent. Mainly because it's so nebulous. I mean, it's OK to want to "not want to lean on them so much", but to "stop relying on them" seems like a tough thing to quantify.

It is not a tradition with me but I think it is a good practice of discipline to pick an occasion like lent or ramadan or something like that, and then endure a decision to do without something.

What is the point of Lent?

I can understand the yogi who suggest it's good health to fast one day a week to allow the body's digestive system have a rest. But Lent just seems like some kind of religious mind-control to me.

^ fair enough. I'm trying to cleanse my mind of the fables in the bible. I have a dim memory of jesus being tempted by satan while in the desert.

I don't do it anymore either. Ever since I decided some crazy old man in hat shouldn't dictate what I am supposed to believe, but that I should decide for myself what I want to believe. I did have pancakes for dinner tonight, though

We all know what the pope gave up for lent! bahahaha

I will not give up something that I know that I will eventually want anyway.
I will be more prayerful during Lent.
That is a positive thing, and meaningful time sacrifice....

    I'm a Dutch Protestant.

We don't do Lent, we just talk about it in Church.
