What do you use private browsing for (besides the obvious)?

Just something I wondered while I was doing the dishes...

We have this wonderful private browsing / incognito mode these days. But I don't know what do people actually use it for, besides the obvious (it's not nicknamed porn mode for nothing). So tell me, good people of JUB.

I personally use it for google searches I wouldn't want showing up in my history. Funnily enough, I don't use it for porn. That's all out in the open.

I have my serious doubts how "private" that really is. I'm convinced Google, Facebook, and Twitter know everything about everyone, just short of a conspiracy theory. I have no doubt they know more about you then the FBI.

Not being a nerd or geek or whatever,
I always stand a chance to learn something.

Doesn't the privacy thing just keep it off the surface?
Isn't the footprint or whatever still always there on the
drive or other thingy, just slightly under the surface and
anyone can pull back the covers baring you and all your
predilections? Or has that changed too?

I only barely remember having beaten into my 1950's
brain that the drive never really forgets or forgives
anything...just shelves it in deeper recesses that may
require an Computer acolyte or up to a Guru to find?

I hated when Firefox updated ages ago and every time I typed in the url bar it brought up my history. I hated it not because I was worried about people seeing what I did online, but because it was just so fucking annoying. I turned that crap off as soon as I figured out how. As for private browsing, I don't think I'm in private mode

I only use it for online banking, so I don't have to clear my cache every time. I don't actually use it for porn! No one else uses my laptop anyway, so i'm not worried about anyone finding it.

For the people who don't know what private browsing is:

Private browsing...
...is a feature in newer browsers where your cookies, browser history, filled out forms and other traces of what you've done online are deleted when you close the window. Its nickname is porn mode because, well, you know.

In Internet Explorer it's called InPrivate and you access it by pressing crtl+shift+p
In Firefox it's called Private Browsing and you access it by pressing crtl+shift+p
In Chrome it's called Incognito Mode and it's accessed by pressing crtl+shift+n

Surprised nobody else mentioned it, but I use it at work. It's a small company and the best they'd know how to do is check browser history to see what we're doing.
So for non-work-related websites I use private browsing. Just saves me from having to clear everything at the end of the day.
