Maybe the pedophile or some other scandal was getting to close to home? Resignations for medical reasons aren't always just resignations for medical reasons.

Re: The Pope decided to give up his position.

so this was the Pope who would accept ETs but not sexually active gay humans?

Vatican: ETs may exist, but they better not be gay or use birth control

Say what you will about the reign of Pope Benedict XVI, but the guy is all about covering all the bases. In an interview with the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano, Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, said that it was fine to believe in aliens and it didn’t contradict a belief in God.

“How can we rule out that life may have developed elsewhere?” Funes said. “Just as we consider earthly creatures as ‘a brother,’ and ‘sister,’ why should we not talk about an ‘extraterrestrial brother’? It would still be part of creation.”

… Funes said that such a notion “doesn’t contradict our faith” because aliens would still be God’s creatures. Ruling out the existence of aliens would be like “putting limits” on God’s creative freedom, he said.

The Bible “is not a science book,” Funes said, adding that he believes the Big Bang theory is the most “reasonable” explanation for the creation of the universe. The theory says the universe began billions of years ago in the explosion of a single, super-dense point that contained all matter.

But he said he continues to believe that “God is the creator of the universe and that we are not the result of chance.”

Funes went on to state that if extraterrestrials did in fact exist, they had better not be homosexual, or practice abortion. “Every life God has created is sacred,” said Funes, “even alien fetuses, or whatever it is they may have. And if the aliens commit homosexual acts, they’re doomed to Hell unless they repent to the Earth’s Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Funes added that the aliens would be subject to all of God’s laws, and if they used birth control, masturbated, ate shellfish, worshipped false idols and committed other random acts that the Church have deemed sinful, they were pretty much screwed.

“Basically, it’s fine to believe in aliens,” said Funes. “But you better believe that they are a bunch of sinners.” ff

I did not claim that he was an honest man, though. I am convinced that he is a scoundrel.

That would not have been a valid reason for resigning.
And this is the reason why your religion is evil because it is mired in conservative dogma that is inherently evil and false and is not open to change.

You do realize that aliens would most likely not be Christians though right. In fact Aliens present a whole new problem for Christianity. Since all humans are descended from Adam and Eve and due to inherited guilt all humans are sinful and need a redeemer. Since aliens are not descended from Adam and Eve are they sinless or do they have their own redeemers. Most likely aliens would have their own religions and Jesus, and Yahweh would be foreign concepts to them.

I'm not saying that there is an ulterior reason for the resignation. Just that it wouldn't surprise me if there was. If that is the case, pressures short of coercion under some Canon Law standard could achieve the desired result. We'll see.

Interesting that for someone who stands so strongly by precedent and past practice in matters like homosexuality or women priests, he has no problem in ignoring precedent and practice, when it suits himself.

Re: The Pope decided to give up his position.

"This again" YES this again, because 'this' is the cause of misery for many gay people, including confused young kids who are faced with homophobia. And you are all concerned with this doddery old dude who wears a funny hat, and in his leaving speech says "In these day which have not been easy for me..." Well what about all those people it aint been easy for precisely because of his hate-speech which re-presents the Catholic religion.

This is an article I published in a blog several years ago:

Should we throw our arms up in the air with shock and horror that this 'ex-Nazi' Pope Benedict claims in his Christmas speech, to his followers, that homosexuals are a greater threat to humanity than the destruction of the rain forests?!

Well no! It is typical behaviour of these Popes, stretching all the way back in time to the beginnings of the Christian Empire. The Christian Hall of Shame

As you will see when you study the long line of his predecessors and their morality, then it makes sense this Pope is carrying on the bad work!

But, looking at what this man says reasonably makes no sense whatsoever. He is trying to say that 'homosexuals' (a term itself made up in the 1950s as a form of pseudo segregation from the other imaginary divide, the 'blessed' 'heterosexuals), or gays pose a threat to the world? How come? Wouldn't it be better more people chose to be gay (not that you always can) so as to ease the increasing rise in world populations. But did the old fool mean that? Is it some 'evil' against 'God' he means?

We do know that his 'God' is reported to be homophobic, hence 'his' leaders and followers (some of them). But erotica is never black and white. We are erotic beings with imaginations, and who knows what can happen in certain charged circumstances.
And I would always far see two males kissing and more than tearing bits out of each other. Yet some homophobes become panic-stricken to see two males even kiss.

I remember this TV documentary I saw where they had these two males kissing each other in public in specific places, at bus stops etc. And then people that saw them doing that were interviewed by the presenter. And some of the reactions, even from a few of the women were incredibly hostile, and ,from some men, murderous! You could see the disgust in their eyes. it turned me on. And I nurture that.

So the toxic pope machine rides on it appears, spreading fear and hatred.

Especially, gay young boys being brought up Catholic, God help em, will suffer 'righteous' abuse and maybe worse because their Pope feels the same way. Some of them will hate themselves for being so 'destructive' to society, and many may take their own lives because of the speech of the man on the throne.

Here is his email address. Why not send him some words and tell him what you think?
