There is no universal authority in Judaism today, although the Rabbinate in individual countries may be considered by some respects to be the oldest organization, with origins in the Sanhedrin of the 6th century BCE.
lighting have struck the Vatican twice. A sign from God?
Yeah, God doesn't want him to go...

Or God wants him to hurry out..
Haha, yeah, I was considering that option when posting mine, but figured you'd bring it up![]()

God's saying, "I told you once... I told you twice! Next time I hit YOU!!! So get your ass out, already!"
"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "![]()

Whatever happens, you can be sure this story will go on for months on the news until they get a new pope installed. I'm sick of hearing about it already.
^Should have a new pope with that new pope smell by Easter.
And then it will be back to the same old same old.
Spring is back....
Also arguably the Zoroastrians and some Hindu organizations which claim a pre-christian religion.
The actual technical fallacy is that what the poster meant to say was it is arguably the oldest religious organization in continuous existence to the present day. Not that it was the oldest organization in the world.
Spring is back....
I just wanna be there when the new Pope opens the box with the document inside detailing the exact nature of the antichrist.
Cookie if anyone gets the reference.
Typical haters are still hating.
NOTE TO UNINFORMED HATERS: if you don't believe in God ... you can't believe in hell.

isn't there an unofficial limit on consecutive posts ? sort of a handshake thing?
7 is a bit much no ?
as for the Pope and the catholic church
seems like it's pretty chic to trash the catholic church
i don't care for it
Yeah. Whatever good it does on the community level at this point, the Catholic Church is a dinosaur that is deeply flawed and harmful to too many people. As an agnostic, I feel absolutely no need to show respect for an institution that doesn't deserve it, just because it's "the church".

shocking development:

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was quick to state that any talk of the President leaving his current office to assume the duties of the supreme pontiff was irresponsible. "We are quite sure that the President would be able to fulfill the duties of both roles simultaneously," Carney reassured reporters.
He admitted that, like assuming the mantle of the presidency, becoming pope would entail a step down for the Lightbringer, but in his well-documented humility the President would be willing to do so to set the Church straight on a number of vital issues.
Lightening strikes St. Peter's Basilica after Pope resigns
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21421810
It strikes twice apparently.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-21427713
As the world reeled with the news that Pope Benedict XVI was to resign, another bolt from the blue was to hit the Vatican within hours. This time quite literally.
A bolt of lightning - surely not a message from above - was photographed striking the lightning rod on the top St Peter's Basilica, not by one, but two photographers. Or, indeed, maybe more?
One of those was photographer Alessandro Di Meo, who was in the area following the breaking news of the resignation. When the first bolt struck, he immediately moved to a position where he would be able to record another strike. It was, he says, a race against time but also against misfortune.
"While I was cleaning the lens from raindrops a first lightning bolt hit the dome and I could not help but watch," he says.
^^^
The National Weather Service reports that the Empire State Buildings is struck by lightning about 100 times a year.
Given the prominence of St. Peter's dome in comparison with the surrounding landscape and buildings, I would wager about the same with all other things being equal.
Then I think GA is more the job for you. A General Authority in the Mormon cult gets higher wages, a bigger house, Vegas-style limousines, free travel to places with high concentrations of Mormons (like Hawaii, Chile, Arizona and Tahiti) and get to wear the gayest all-white Elvis suits whenever they dedicate a new McTemple. Also, you get to share your leadership with 14 others. Less lonely at the top. Yet all the Molly Mormons will know your name, have your picture framed in the front room, and pant when they get to shake your hand. Did I mention the cult owns over forty billion dollars, and expects all of its members to pay 10% of their gross income?
He doesn't have the Physical and possibly emotional Strength to continue on, and if you followed him in the Masses either in St. Peter's, or in another Country...he has been seen slumped in the Chair, and at times leaning to the side and with a tired look about him. We need another John Paul II, a Pope in his 50's
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did.
It also doesn't have to be a cardinal. Or even a priest.
