All the gay men I've ever known have been incredibly masculine ... except for their colourful dress-sense, screechingly high-pitched voices, mincing walks, effeminate gesticulations, love of drag, and penchant for calling each other 'girlfriend'.

I volunteered at my local LGBT community center for a while and I have met all kinds of gay men. If you look long enough and in larger cities you will find a bigger variety.

Re: Have You Met More Masculine Gays Or More Feminine Gays?

I know few feminine gays. But,most of my gay friends are masculine.

1 of the thing i hate,is when straight people act all surprised that i am gay.Because i am masculine.

They says things like (you are gay but you dont look gay,you are gay?,no way!,you dont look like other gays, you are masculine for a gay man and i would never have guest that you are gay)

Most of these things comes from straight men,but women says things like that also.Even some gay men falls for it.

My masculine gay friends goes through the same thing as well.As soon gay men are masculine, they pass as straight. So,people thinks they are straight.Because people relie on stereotypes.

Too much people believe the stereotypes.

Can gay men get rid of the stereotypes?

Possibly not.At least not all the stereotypes.

The movies and tv shows still mostly show gay men with stereotypes.

I’ve heard that a cock is more masculine when it’s wearing lipstick. If that’s true it doesn’t seem fair.

    Is this fair?

How would you know if they are gay since they are so masculine? You could be best friends with tons of gheighs right now without even knowing it.

Most gays I come across in various gay-social circles tend to lean towards fem side, but there are a few who are very masc, especially the black gays I know.

Most gay men I've known are more on the fem side. Many of them try to act more masculine, and almost all of them have described themselves as masculine.

I actually think that the biggest gay stereotype is the urge for gay men to behave as though they are not gay.

Didn't have any real life gay friends so it maybe inaccurate. I do see guys holding hands in the streets one in a while though. Assuming that they are gay, I'd say more masc (as they are more muscular/ big)

Re: Have You Met More Masculine Gays Or More Feminine Gays?

I worked in a busy gay nightclub for 20 years full time so I met every fucking type of man under the sun......

Some of the most feminine men are the toughest of them all...and the one we all should be thankful to because collectively they opened a lot more doors than all the rest of the types put together. I love feminine men...

I don't really know what most of the definitive gay stereotypes are anyway....I don't really care what Mrs Smith from Arkansas thinks about gay people....

I think people should define themselves.....period....and if they let other people define them..it is on them.

I am considered a stereotype though and I am not feminine...I have fucked my way through 750-1000 men and am quite happy about it..would do it again (well..most of them anyway). I don't care what straight people or even other gay people think. They cannot say it didn't "mean anything" or that I don't "respect myself" LOLOLOLOL...duh..they weren't even there. As it happens...I have a lot of self respect. I earned it the hard way...and I don't consider sex nasty or dirty and having anything to do with morals or decency....

There didn't used to be any gay slut shamers...now they are the norm. I would even say slut shamers are the new gay stereotype...wanna be Virgin Mary's waiting for their Prince ..barf.

I consider sex to be a spiritual experience and the other people I know who think the same are straight..and they have had tons of partners as well...but no one stereotypes them....

I'ma keep it real. I've met guys who look masculine on the surface but have a degree of femininity to them. You can tell that they probably wouldn't pass as straight upon closely examining them. There's like maybe a handful of guys that i've came across who were genuinely masculine inside and out. Most gay dudes I've came across look masculine but act effeminate. Not completely but it's there.

But yeah..... many guys try so hard to butch it up where you can tell they're gay.

To me, it doesn't matter about how manly or girly a guy is though as long as they're cool.

I do think that effeminate gay guys get unnecessary and unwarranted hate from gay guys in general. Effeminate dudes are the best. They're cool as fuck and sexy too.

Most masculine gay men I know are putting on an act, and no matter how they act in public, when you get them in private or on the phone drunk, their feminine side starts showing immediately.

They'll deny this to the end of the world, and I know I probably am the same way and this comment will receive much backlash but I firmly believe it. Most gay men have a feminine side, some just try to hide it more.

^ I'm interested in how you define masculine and feminine.

I consider myself masculine, but not macho. I don't feel feminine although I do feel domestic.

Also, I think playful can easily be interpreted as feminine.

They may look masculine but they suppress a lot of more feminine mannerisms and ways of speaking, is what I mean. And I think a lot of gay men do this; I have met a lot of gay men from various social circles and walks of life and I can say that if they do pass as a straight man, they are going out of their way to come off that way in public but behind closed doors it is different.

    Eh.

I don't automatically filter them into categories.

For the record, not even most of the straight guys I know fit into the stereotypical "masc" rules. The beauty of befriending mainly artists and actors. All that superficial nonsense is whatever. We're all people. Good people, at that.

Realistically, everyone on Eartg has qualities that some would perceive as masculine and some would perceive as feminine. It's so whatever.

Right then, sometimes I can be quite feminine, but I think I am mainly masculine. I dress in male clothes, and just love being a man.
When I was about 4 or 5 years old, I tried to dress up in some of Mum's clothes, but she soon stopped that! And I am glad she did, for my prefence is men's clothes, and living as the male of the species.
So, I prefer the male way of life, and I have no urges to become any more feminine than I might be on occasion.
I love man sex, and have no desire to change myself in anyway here.

I dont agree with that. You are basically saying that gay men cant naturally be masculine. As if gay men were usualy not that masculine. You are also implying that gay men cant be 100% masculine. So,you are saying that only straight men can be legitely masculine.

Most masculine gay men are actually really masculine. They are not faking it.Feminine men tends to be the men that generalize the most and says that most gay men are feminine. When in reality, its the opposite.Theres lots of feminine men.But they are a minority. Most gay men are masculine. Not half masculine or 3/4 masculine.Totally masculine.

Theres straight men who are feminine and very flamboyant. They are straight.

90% of my gay friends are masculine. They are very masculine. They could easily pass a straight.I also hate the pass as straight thing.Because its implies that all straight men are masculine by default. When in reality, theres feminine straight men.

Being a feminine man is not a gay thing. Its who you are.You just cant help it.Any men can be feminine.Straight or gay.

You didn't understand what I was saying. I am saying that a lot of gay men, including those who act more masculine, are really hiding other aspects of their personalities and presentation out of shame.

This is not to say that it is impossible for gay men to be completely masculine but a lot of those who present themselves that way are not being truthful to themselves, and everyone knows it. Just give them a little alcohol and get them in private and you will see what I mean.

It is often very surprising too, to see that the way you are used to seeing someone presenting themselves is inauthentic.

^ That is a good observation of people drinking to excess along a lot of lines. It is irksome to find that someone has been keeping up a front.

Do you then think that there is a preponderance of effeminate gay men, only masked by phenotypic male masculine facades?
