    Fashion expert input please ;)

So I would like to hear your guys thought about this.

I put it together for the grey jacket I recently bought and just HAD to combine it with my new tie
I would categorize it under casual chic.

Nice? Okay? Bad? Gross? Lady Gaga?

Honest opinion...............you could do much better

You don't put a tie with a casual Jacket which by the way should be always open.
Jumper over a tie (or tie under the jumper) is never a good idea when you dress casual.
    The Jeans are fine though.
    That's how you wear it.

Photo 1: (Put a scarf instead of the tie if you feel "naked")

    Photo 2:

Basically avoid the tie unless you are dressing business:

    But you are cute

as for your question: yes, you do look like someone who wont have trouble finding "input", by fashion experts or otherwise.

When you dress casual, you need to look like you are confortable and relaxed while at the same time looking smart.

The first picture I posted is the way you should go IMO (You can lose the scarf if you think it is too metrosexual)

Thanks for your input but I donīt feel that ties are only for formal events, at least not where I live. I know that a lot of people dislike suits and ties but I like them in my off-work time.

@Nishin: Itīs called eldredge knot. I find it very intresting due to itīs geomatrical appearance.

You look stiff because you are wearing casual clothes as if you were wearing a suit.

    I like suits too.........but you aren't wearing a suit.
You clearly wearing casual clothes, starting from the Jeans..........
When you wear casual clothes the tie don't really suit the rest of the clothes.

You are asking for input, but you seems like you already decided
Anyway as long as you are happy, that's what matters

It's fine but the colour of the jumper is not a great match with the other colours. The tie knot is improper but adds a certain flair. Overall not bad. May I suggest getting something with a front-facing camera so you don't have the "shot in the mirror" effect which is hardly flattering. But, for a full opinion, I would need to see the trousers and shoes as well.

Thats also my concern, I find it a bit colourfull. What about a dark grey slip-over (is that the right word? A pullover without sleeves.)

For the love of everything holy, don't use that knot again. I'd also look for a colour of tie that stands-out. Perhaps something orange, red, gold. I also like to have stripe or something on the tie that's the same colour of the shirt, or the stripe in a suit, if one exists. Back to the knot, with that collar you could use a windsor. With your face and frame, a four-in-hand may be better suited.

I'd ditch the jumper in both instanced. The first, the colour isn't suited to the outfit, I think. The second, is I don't find it flattering to your body. It may be the jumper, or it may be you - I couldn't say.

I like the jacket colour, though I'd go with narrower lapels with your body type. A two-button jacket may better frame your torso. You can also add a pocket square for a bit of flash. But make sure the pocket square does not match your shirt or tie - it's a common mistake. It doesn't have to match anything, to be honest.

Though, were I as fit as you, I'd be walking around with the least bit of clothing possible; but that's just me. ;)

Yeah itīs kinda controversial but also a real eyecatcher wouldnīt wear it for business but for my free time I like it, four in hand is the knot for my more sportive Strellson suit with a narrow tie and half-windsor is business, although I rarely do suit-and-tie close protection.

^ I'm of the opinion that if one is wearing a tie, it's not really an environment to be avant-garde - but I'm a bit stuffy/old-fashioned when it comes to those kinds of things.

I love your thread, but not your threads. I don't keep current on fashion, but I think your choices are not as good as could be.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I don't like gray on you at all. Your color suggests you would look better with muted colors, but not gray. Tan, brown, rust, amber, umber, sienna, butterscotch, olive, and others would look good.

The jacket breaks at the wrong place as it drapes over your chest. Go with the 2-button jacket as someone else said. This makes you look like you have man boobs, but you don't.

Your yen for color is ok, but I'd rather see it up closer to your face, like in the tie or a scarf or cap.

I'm with looseliam on the tie, but I don't think it really matters. It would be a conversation starter, and I think that is what you are shooting for, no? It's just too much for that mix of looks. If you were doing something more over the top, like for a party, then I'd pick a loud colored tie and do it.

You're in France, aren't you? I am sure styles and tastes there don't align with what is popular or appealing here, so all our comments are probably just natterings.

Good for your for sharing. LOOVE the mirror. You're a great looking lad.

I think the knot is pretty cool. It might be over-the-top with a full outfit, but, it might look great with jeans, button-up and just the tie. THAT would be the thing that stands out.

The thing missing in all of your pics is a piece of clothing with a pattern. You have all solids (despite the fact that the tie and coat have texture). Your color choices are fine (except the grey sweater... too bland). So, just find a shirt with a big check pattern on it or a sweater with some thin and simple stripes.

What's the one thing in the outfit that you want to stand out? Decide that and then make all of the other pieces classy and simple so that they don't upstage your "main piece."

Tie knot is great. I can't imagine where it would ever be out of place, except if you're going to an event that requires Court Dress or something, where the whole point is to look like an aristocrat who has been dead for 120 years.

I think the overall look is very good too, even the grey. But I did like the olive suggestion. The first picture in the purple sweater is well suited to your physique, but the line of the sweater is interrupted by something near your navel. Not sure what's going on there...
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did. And like Michael Piemonte. And Joseph Wilcox.

One imagines it is simply the end of the necktie, riding up with wear (to quote "Are You Being Served?")

As hard up already suspected: it was the end of the tie. I leave it longer now so I can tuck it into the waistbelt.

its conservative, but there is nothing wrong with that as a style. i like the elaborate knot, i like that the tie and the shirt tone-in-tone, and i like the v-neck-over-tie combo. the jacket i can take or leave.

Pardon et moi. I had thought you were posting in French in the past when there was a French thread, but I'm probably just confusing you with another. I'm not literate in French, btw, just thought you were and imputed the nationality to you. Of course, you could have and still been a good German.

I tied the knot and it's really difficult to undo afterwards, or rather, it's hard to tug the tie at the knot to loosen it. It can be a choking hazard if you're unlucky.

  28. #28

Re: Fashion expert input please ;)

I like the knot and think it and the tie work well with the jumpers and think that the jacket and the jumper in the 1st post work well together, but something feels off with the jumper & tie when paired with the jacket. (First time I've ever heard a sweater referred to as a jumper...learned something new today.) Definitely do not think the outfit in post #13 works at all...dull. The jacket is neutral and needs more contrast and/or pattern elsewhere in the look to give it more life. Also, the jacket is very casual, and the tie/knot isn't.

    My suggestions would be to:

    • Pair the jacket with the sweater in the 1st pic. but keep the collar open.
    • Switch out the jumpers for a dark vest or jumper with a deeper V, that follows the lines of the jacket, and go with a patterned tie with a simpler knot.
    • Omit the jumper with the jacket and wear a contrasting shirt...darker, patterned, or crisp white. Choose a more casual tie.
    • Save that knot and tie for suits, or perhaps even with just that dress shirt...for dressier occasions or business. It'd look great with nicely fitted black pants, black belt, shiny black shoes...
    • Ignore all advice given because you look aheluvalot better than 98% of all the other guys out there.
    Bad decisions make good stories.

OP, maybe you would like to fly over to London for a rendezvous with yours truly?

Gray on gray, if it's fitting, go for it, but if the jacket is not as body-fitting, I suggest the purple jumper, or even a cardigan. If you want the tie to be paired with a casual jacket to create a smart casual look, it is possible. A bomber jacket or a quilted one can make it less business-like.
