House of Cards - Netflix
Just watched the new show "House of Cards on Netflicks. Well I watched the first two episodes. It is a well done political drama and has all the fine workings of a dirty Washington insider story... get some boys... you'll like it -- maybe!!
It is also a breakthrough for the new media experience. Netflix enters the field with a stunning series that released yesterday -- IN ITS ENTIRELY... one who enjoys a good series binge occasionally can appreciate that. I sure as hell do. My time is not like a clockwork and when i can etch out a few hours I like to watch something I enjoy.
I really like Kevin Spacey and it centers on him as a double crossed Congressman making life hell for the ruling administration. A trailer can be found HERE...
"Take a step back, look at the bigger picture, that's how you devour a whale -- one bite at a time. Give and take, Welcome to Washington," Spacey says menacingly at the end of the clip.
... from the series
I know technically this is "entertainment" but really don't we all follow politics for real entertainment?
So take a look maybe come back and tell us what you think... I have a few more things I would like to say about the first two episodes but i hate spoilers.... so in white below here is a spoiler.......
JUST KIDDING

I am just about to watch it myself in 5 minutes. Have you seen the original British series? Absolutely brilliant, but requires some knowledge of the inner workings of the British parliamentary system. Some of the best acting I've ever seen.

I did. I saw the whole mess. I am addicted to political drama... I sincerely thought fiction was worse than real life until GWB and Mittens came along. This isnt really a spoiler because it is in the trailer but I simply love the tie in with the media. Our media is so freaking manipulated it isnt funny.

For some reason, I expected the title to be about how much of a sham netflix is and its impending doom. I already got enough political intrigue from A Song of Ice and Fire aka Game of Thrones. If I want real life political intrigue, well I live in MA where we have had so many elections in the past 5 years.

LOL...
Is Netflicks a house of Cards? I know often times their content isn't the premier movie A list and they don't have the mundane series of Hulu but now that they are producing their own content that is a step in the right direction. Look at Fox and USA... think about them ten years ago... maybe fifteen for Fox. Those networks had just about shit and reruns to offer. Now they lead the industry in ratings. Something may eclipse Netflicks but make no mistake on demand content is the wave of the future.
Oh and I am not saying that Netflicks wont fail to adapt and then become obsolete like blockbuster. Just that by creating their own content, and that content being damn good, they further the likelihood they will be relevant and stick around.

It was sooooo good. OMG, I loved the show. Great writing, and I like how the didn't make the man out to be invincible. He had quite a few missteps and it looks like he is gonna be in some shit next season. Bravo Netflix on this one.

lol you gotta read more tech news. Netflix just sealed some stellar deals with big media companies that will give Netflix a good lead in the next few years. You still think Netflix is hurting from their Qwikster debacle.

Yea I thought this was also about Netflix and their lack of content. I cancelled them a while back. I am more pleased with Hulu Plus. Redbox is trying something but it's fallen short (lack of support for Roku). And on topic, I haven't seen the show. Is it available anywhere else?

Hulu Plus itself is $7.99, and Netflix is the same price I think. That together would be $14. I think he was referring to each being that price.
Oh and Redbox streaming isn't anything special to be honest.

Yes, that was the benchmark. The BBC at its best. Netflix was a pale imitation.

Re: House of Cards - Netflix
I just finished it last night. I found both series incredible. Although the BBC version was four shows long and left a lot of story line to be desired. That and the BBC version is set around tumultuous times making it very simple to seem dramatic. The US version, I believe, attempts to show how power play is involved in even the simplest bills and measures. Perhaps the best way to say it is "If you see life as romantic, then the BBC look backwards will thrill you"
The American version is longer and therefore much more complex while dealing with mundane issues instead of national calamities. It also shows how the manipulator is always the easiest to manipulate. If any of you have read Machiavelli or the 48 laws of power then you can see the ideology playing out in front of your eyes.
Both very different series that share a name. Both very good. Seemingly the same storylines but through different lenses. Both about power and manipulation....
