So Uh..Kerry is confirmed...Just like that?

It is like everyone has just given up?

Are the Republican's so busy sniffing that empty seat left by his appointment that there was no swift-boating....not even enough faux FOX shoutrage to make his appointment smell and taste like shit?

Are all the conservatives just throwing in the towel?

Not they are getting their teeth sharpened for Hagel and the rest are busy talking out of both sides of their mouths on Immigration to get the Hispanic vote back. As if!

    Hail the Ketchup King.

Seriously, they just wanted to get rid of him.

Did you think they would fight to KEEP him in the Senate?

Actually, my favorite so far this year is, Lapierre trying to waffle around on background checks which 92% of America support and 86% of NRA membership support is embarrassing for him. Seriously if the NRA had simply acquiesce to different things then most rational minded Americans who still want handguns would go along and get along.

Did you catch the compelling story of the Legal Immigrant Henson Ong?

that is a good voice and point of view as well....

I agree it is societal but disagree that D.C. and Chicago are less safe because of their strict gun laws. They are less safe because of loose laws in other states. Evidence in countries with no weapons support the idea that no guns equals less gun death.

Should the NRA get out of the back pocket of the gun manufacturers and stop being their defacto lobbyists in Washington, they might have a little more legitimacy with the gun control advocates. Until they do, just follow the money. What can be said by a lobby that spends millions of dollars to lobby its opinion. It is not about the right to own a gun but a tradition of allowing a morally corrupt organization like the NRA to spread its influence on politics. Thinly disguised as some constitutional right organization, it supports the agenda of greedy weapons manufacturers, while enlisting the support of gullible and reactionary hunters and gun enthusiasts to help lobby their point.

Re: So Uh..Kerry is confirmed...Just like that?

The main reason that Republicans wanted to confirm him is that it gets him out of the Senate seat [they truly abhor him] and it opens up that seat for supposedly Scott Brown again.

Brown won't get re-elected. He lost by a greater margin then Coakley did in 2010. Unless the Dems pull another Coakley, he's not getting back in.

    Obviously.

I think Obama only nominated Kerry because he is sick of never being able to get any nominees for anything past Republicans in the Senate.

The Kerry nomination will likely result in the loss of a Democratic Senate seat to Republicans, so it is interesting that Obama is willing to sacrifice this. Brown's re-election will leave Democrats with a 52-46 majority in the Senate - too slim for comfort.

Brown is leading every Democrat in early polls.

You underestimate how toxic Markey is. He's in the "entertainment" industry's pockets and he is the reason for all this anti-piracy nonsense. The Democratic shills will vote for him because he is an established Democrat. If the party could put up something better than Markey and Lynch I would be all over that but they aren't.

That was always my understanding as well. They wanted the seat open.

Oh I think we all knew they wanted the seat vacant, but I can't believe that they wouldn't take the opportunity to smear their feces all over him while they were confirming him.

Shoorly there was some new nasty bit of dirt they could have thrown out there to give the impression that they were holding their noses while confirming him and making sure that his appointment would be seen as reflecting badly on Obama.

That's true, their more characteristic form as of late would be to always intend to confirm him but hold it up for 2 months while smearing him. It is a surprise they didn't do so, true. Maybe it means they have something worse up their sleeve.

They have done a good part towards holding their noses while appointing Hagel.... and he did his best to help them have a shitty opinion.

Probably a couple of seats in Canada are open. If discontent, move.
