on the topic: I actually spent years worried that the upcoming large Latino voter base might swing Republican because of their traditionally conservative and Catholic social views. I can't even tell you how many Prop 8 support bumper stickers I saw on cars here in California where every other bumper sticker was in Spanish. Republicans are sticking hardcore to the idea that their message isn't out of touch or to blame, just the implementation of disseminating it and obstructing the vote for non white males. As far as I'm concerned they can keep running on that platform, and lose monstrously again in 2016.

Actually, if you go back to the "seed people" - those who came "to America" in colonial (and pre-colonial Sixteenth Century) times - they were coming to a land where the concept of Nation-State was not really known. Therefore, the concept of "illegal immigration" likely didn't even exist. The closest to "illegal" would have been for the original inhabitants to be suspicious of newcomers, and perhaps try to chase them away.

As I understand it, though, the aboriginal peoples usually welcomed the newcomers openly - much to their detriment - which they did not foresee or imagine. Pogroms such as forced relocations or wholesale exterminations were also concepts which weren't commonly practiced in the Americas "in 1491" and I doubt the natives were prepared for such egregious human behaviour, but such stuff was already something which was already commonly practiced across much of Europe for many centuries prior.

And, as far as WAITING IN THE IMMIGRATION QUEUE, there is **no reason** why the necessary background checks, etc. should need to take more than THREE OR FOUR WEEKS. Perhaps much more of the immigration would be LEGAL-and-documented if the bottlenecks were resolved. With ubiquitous computer bases and such, this should be entirely fast and streamlined. This is the damned 21st Century. It shouldn't take DECADES for applications to be processed. This is entirely absurd.
