I don't know that it's abnormal. I can't say I've experienced it myself, but I can see where it could be an issue, especially if you're used to someone who is bigger, etc.
Like racer said, it's not going to grow any, unfortunately - so I suggest as he did, try different positions, and maybe include a couple of sex toys that are longer - might help in the beginning, or the end.
