    The Following (New TV Show)

My new favorite show, just love it!

A brilliant and charismatic, yet psychotic serial killer communicates with other
active serial killers and activates a cult of believers following his every command.
Check it out and make sure to watch the pilot first.

Some people are unhappy because they think it's unrealistic.

Since when are shows like this suppose to be realistic?

I love the theme of the killer being so brilliant that he gets so many inside people to turn and work for him. You never know who you can trust and who not.

I watched the pilot and was somewhat intrigued although the premise just requires so much suspension of disbelief.

The serial killer is such a cliche though. I cringe at his dialogue and evil smirking. Gimme a break.

Ughh I know. A show I loved watching (Last Resort) was cancelled because of that idea. People seem to be more hooked on scripted reality shows that are soooooooooo much more "real."

The second episode was really good.

I was distracted while watching the pilot, but I was glued to the screen during the second episode. I hope that it lasts.

If you think about it shows like Dexter aren't really realistic either but I've never heard someone complain about that.

Re: The Following (New TV Show)

Compared to this, Dexter is super duper realistic despite him constantly evading the incredibly inept Miami police. The premise of the show is pretty simple and easier to believe-- a serial killer who hides his true identity while trying to come to terms with his blood lust.

The Following, on the other hand, wants us to believe that a former English Lit professor is wooing all sorts of people through his writings and his charismatic personality. He then continues to orchestra evil plots with these followers from behind bars. He doesn't just have rabid fans, he has amassed a huge following of individuals who are ready to kill for him, who want to be groomed as killers and they expertly execute whatever intricate plots he has planned. He also has crazy mind-control powers. Erm. Wat. Like, this is just a straight-forward crime drama, so it does require a better sense of realism. I can see why people are complaining about it being too unrealistic.

I am willing to just accept all this craycray if they can somehow make it work. But at this point, I don't see how this premise will continue to hold up for very long. Is it just going to be a Crazy Cult Member of The Week type of formula? Where they focus on of them per episode? Will the police go to visit Cult Leader In Jail ever episode so they can yell at him as he smirks and makes witty comments? If so, just how many of these 'Followers' could he have gotten so this show can go on for more than a season? How is he keeping track of all this shit from behind bars? Will he eventually escape prison and be on the run?

I'll see how it plays out for a while before deciding to drop it. Episode 2 was just more of the same but I am intrigued by the FBI Cult Specialist Lady and Girl Follower With Short Hair.

    Ep 3.

Ryan admits that Joe 'seduced him with his charm' in the past, so he overlooked the fact that he was the serial-killer and 5 other victims died because of this... L-O-L. Whattttttt is going on with Joe and his mind-control?

The Fake Gay Couple Is Not So Fake. And now we have a disturbing love triangle on our hands, with the scary short-haired girl acting paranoid. She will literally cut you for messing with her man. Literally. They better keep that shit under wraps unless they want to be killed by her amirite. :/

The email of Joe's son killing things. :/

I'm so happy that they turned out to be bi/gay for real.

I'm always talking about how we need more TV/movie characters who happen to be gay without it being about that.

Cult followers, kidnappers and killers who just happen to be gay. I'm in heaven.

In ep 2, they made it obvious that he was pretty jealous and had feelings for the other guy so I thought that he accidentally fell for the other guy despite both of them identifying as straight. But ep 3 seems to confirm that he's been gay/bi the entire time due to the look on his face when they were playing 'gay chicken'. I'm not sure what the other guy is-- probably the same. I guess we're supposed to interpret it as two latently bisexual guys who accidentally fall in love? I don't know.

    The Following

Anyone else watching it? Creepy and fascinating at once. Last night's episode showed the beginning--in the shower--of a serial killer three-way, one straight, one gay, and the girl ring leader. Now with Kevin on television, soon the whole of North America will be but a few Bacons apart.

This echoes Charles Manson and the family and the girl with short hair could be Squeaky Fromme and Im sure they probably had sex when they were dirty on the ranch. The knives and setting someone on fire are just what some nut job needs to be inspired and do the same kind of thing.

I like the show but I will not be surprised if there is a murder in real life and people will scratch their heads and not understand how they didn't see this coming.

    Re: The Following

This show is creeping me out a little bit. I mean the whole idea of having a show glorifying a serial killer is a little wonky if you think about it. Maybe the show will eventually go into what creates these monsters but right now it is glamorizing the James Purefoy character. I have to admit they cast a great guy. He is handsome and engaging and the British accent doesn't hurt. I'm taking a wait and see attitude about it. If it turns out to be a "how great serial killers are" show, they'll lose me. I mean really we have enough of those type shows that already glorify killers, i.e. all the vampire shows, Supernatural etc. I don't particularly care for any of those shows but there is the premise of fantasy about them. This show is supposedly based in real time and in reality. There is a possibly for potential problems.

I always thought Emma and Jacob would kill Paul because of his weakness and jealousy.

After the last episode I'm starting to think it's rather Jacob who's gonna get killed (probably just by Emma).

Well like always people should be aware of that these type of shows do not make killers. At the best they just influence their methods. Of course there are always gonna be drama queens who blame the show.

Hm. I actually never thought Jacob had it in him to conspire with Emma (to kill Paul). Jacob seems really unsure of himself and sensitive. He also seems to really care about both Emma and Paul so he just wants to be on good terms with both.

Paul: I can see him killing Emma. Emma: I can see her killing Paul.

If Emma and Paul fall in love over their shared blood-lust will they get rid of the weak-link in the group (Jacob)? I don't know yet. It depends on if Jacob keeps screwing up and the other two strengthen their bond. Right now they don't want to "give up on him" and have agreed to share Jacob.

Anyway, I will be sad when Jacob is killed off. Nico Tortorella is so pretty. :/

Re: The Following (New TV Show)

They've lost me. This is just turning into a thrill kill cult show. What I mean is if they want to have shows about gay serial killers why don't they dramatize the lives of Jeffrey Dahmer or John Wayne Gacy or Henry Lee Lucas. O wait those are real killers and aren't sort of pretty with sort of hot bodies and live/hide in huge houses out in the country. The story isn't even that good. They are going from shock to shock and filling in with crappy dialogue.

Another loser to the ratings I'm sure. I'm done....Peace out.

Even this part of the show is getting to be ridiculous...

Apparently, Jacob is now saying he's 100% straight and he can't stand Paul touching him.

But Emma and Paul are extra cuddly and stuff.

    OK. lol

Meh.. I loved this show, but I'm starting to get tired of it now. I thought the characters were gay, or at the very least bi, but they're not. They're just turned on by their situation, the thrill and power of it. That's why they have sex with each other, they bonded. Ugh.. I'm just disappointed. There's a couple of episodes I still haven't watched, but I don't think I will. I don't like the direction the show is going. Besides.. Paul, Emma and Jacob were the only interesting characters on the show, and lets face it.. they will probably get caught or killed soon.

Re: The Following (New TV Show)

OK.. I'm now completely up to date with the episodes.

This is my take on it: Paul is gay, his "shut up!" comment was gold. I think Jacob genuinely likes Emma, but I think he protests a bit too much when it comes to Paul and their relationship. My guess is bi, or at the very least straight/bi-curious.

I read about the upcoming "game changer". This is what I think will happen in the next episode: Paul will die. He's lost too much blood already. It's obvious he's gonna die with how they ended episode 6. Jacob will finally admit to himself that he had feelings for Paul. He will then take revenge on Emma for leaving them alone. He will either catch her and hand her over to the police or kill her and release the kid back to his parents.

Well we already know the FBI and police on this show are a mess. But...

The main "followers" looked incredibly incompetent in this episode, aside from Emma who never seems to let herself get sidetracked from 'the cause' or whatever. Jacob and Paul are totally helpless without Emma-- she's the brains, it seems. I wonder what they'll do on their own now. I guess I have to keep watching to see what Jacob decides on. I only care because he's hot, ngl.

And again, we have some really absurd, eye-roll inducing stuff like 'followers' having infiltrated the SWAT team and the local police. PLOT TWIST.

So... new episode tonight! What do you guys think will happen? I'm excited! Hopefully Paul doesn't die, but I have a bad feeling

Oh, and an unpopular opinion here: Adan Canto (Paul) is a very good actor. I'm positively surprised. He doesn't seem to have that much acting experience, and it's his first English speaking role. Nico Tortorello (Jacob) on the other hand.. yikes. His acting is at times cringeworthy, I'm sorry, but it is. I mean.. I still think he's hot as hell, and I'm glad he's on the show, don't get me wrong. I like the relationship between Paul and Jacob a lot. BUT he's still not a very good actor

Bye, this show has more Deus Ex Machinas than the short stories I wrote when I was 12.

Only reason I'm watching the next episode is to see where that hawt "follower" of the wife went and see what happens when Paul and jacob are alone together.

Out of all the people they could of gotten rid of (Everyone except for Paul or Iceman from Xmen, the FBI agent guy with the gorgeous blue eyes) they had to kill that follower that was supposed to pick up the son and the trio.

That man could of had it ALL

This show is a God Damn mess. I use though.

Done with this show. It just got picked up, too. You dump two characters in the middle of nowhere, with no one, one bleeding out and you don't even feature them?

    Bye.

    Bye.
I admit I wasn't that happy with the developments either. I mean.. it was a good episode. I liked the episode a lot. But yeah, Jacob and Paul missing was so not cool But I'm not giving up hope. They might come back in the next episode, you never know.
I like Ryan Gosling, Chris Pine, Chace Crawford, Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper, Tom Hiddleston, Kris Allen, Armie Hammer, Teddy Sears, Jon Kortajarena

I don't think they dropped them yet I just think it's on hold because there was so much going on in this episode.

Btw I'm kinda starting to enjoy how they make the law enforcement more incompetent every episode because I've started to wait for it and then laugh. How hard was it to double check if the prisoner was in the truck right before leaving? Especially when they knew they were gonna try something. Ridiculous!

I lol'd so hard when Joe was choking that lawyer to death and Ryan is like "NOOOooooooooo!" as he hears it over the phone. Just hilarious.

I, too, missed Jacob and Paul. They're in the main cast so I don't think their story has been wrapped up yet. I feel like they'll probably turn on the cult and help the FBI or something. Jacob seems like he'd do that...and I can see Paul going along with it.

Anyway, at least it's slightly more realistic to have Joe on the outside, now, managing his followers. But that house full of crazy looking followers = creepy. lol

No way they could have such a large cult without someone spilling.

I'm trying to get into this, as I am a Kevin Bacon fan, but it's not hitting me right yet.
I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it.

So...about Claire's follower offering himself up as sacrifice...And Joe 'lovingly' embracing him and killing him as the rest watch on...What is this show and why am I watching it...

p.s. WHERE ARE JACOB AND PAUL. Like, what kind of weird writing? Leaving a serious plot thread hanging for two consecutive episodes by giving it zero screen-time?

p.p.s. MIKE GOT STABBED. And Ryan suddenly cares about him. Poor Mike, he was so thirsty for his attention. It took a full on stabbing to get your heroes attention but you finally did it. ~

So, we finally get to see Jacob and Paul again but wow that was really underwhelming. Jacob is gonna make Emma pay. He looked pissed.
