The store where you bought it probably imbedded their own password for just this situation.

Try this article which might help you out with ideas and tools - also this link or this link. If you don't have a physical Windows 7 install disc (or if you didn't create a rescue disc), depending on the laptop manufacturer, there's often a partition on the hard drive that you perform the procedure from.

By the way, even if as a last resort you have to do a fresh Windows 7 installation you should be able to still find and remove your data files (let's say you put them in a folder called "alberta2010" on your C: drive) residing on the hard drive, providing you don't wipe or reformat the drive first/during install, and in some circumstances providing they're outside of your "Documents & Settings" or Userdata folders. If you've just got stuff on your C: or D: drive, Windows shouldn't touch them when it does its reinstall.

I was about to suggest the same web link. Also, as you plan to sell it, if you have the Windows 7 operating system disk, you could do a clean install of the OS. It will wipe everything in the process.

Download the systemrescue iso/usb image from here:
    http://www.osdisc.com/products/linux...iate=sysresccd

burn it to a cd or copy the image to a usb drive

to change the system password, follow the directions here:
