"Dinner and a movie"

So I'm chasing this really great guy, and I want to make the first date just right. I really want to make him dinner before the movie, but I'm worried that may be seen as a little too desperate, or maybe even cheap, which isn't really what I have in mind.

Would it be better to just tighten my belt in other areas and go out for dinner before the movie, or should I show a bit more passion and make him a nice dinner?

i think a self-made meal is wonderful, but... i think taking someone home on the first date is a little too intimate, unless youre the "sex on the fisrt date" kinda guy. in which case food isnt the best option.

It's a lovely sentiment but full of issues. Movies are common as dates, but initially it means two plus hours of no talking and no eye contact. The "date" comes afterwards over a drink or food when it can be discussed, but if there's disagreement it could end up being your last date. Dinner at home isn't cheap. It's an act of love that can be construed as too intimate if done too early in a relationship.

What about an exhibit or something more lively and interactive than a movie? If you wish to prepare food, I'd suggest a picnic for first dates, but the weather is an issue. It's possible to get creative, however, even in bad winter weather.

I think you guys should hang out in the GYM together first, or, take a stroll together, or something more "light"

Yeah, I think dinner - whether paying for it outside or especially making it at home - is a bit too intimate for a first date. I know I'd be raising an eyebrow if I had a guy do that for me on a first date.
