Another threat in Benghazi?
Uk, Netherlands and Germany warns its citizens to leave Benghazi within the last 24hrs.
Supposedly there is information of a credible and imminent threat, but no details have been given. Information has obviously been shared with allies?, or perhaps Netherlands and Germany are following blindly as a precaution?.
I wish we could know what the government knows. They haven't shared details even with the Libyan government, who seem surprised at the warning.

Re: Another threat in Benghazi?
The Italian consul general, Guido De Sanctis, was attacked in Benghazi on January 13.
His car was targeted by gunmen as he pulled out of the consulate. No one was injured, however, thanks to the heavy armor plating and bulletproof glass of his Mercedes G-Wagon 461.
As the former colonial power over Libya, Italy maintains a huge diplomatic presence there. The Italian consulate in Benghazi has been closed.

Re: Another threat in Benghazi?
Do you think that the recent threats in North Africa are a result of terrorist displacement from the Middle East? Or are they purely regional groups which may just have stepped up their activity?

^ I have no idea.
My gut suspicion is that they are displaced. Al-Qaeda are under pressure everywhere. They successfully used to war in Iraq to enter that country and establish a foothold there. Now, they may be using the unrest in Libya to try to do the same.
