Here's the latest display of Republican butthurt: Some of Fox News' squawking heads are claiming that Downton Abbey is a threat to the Left because it presents the rich and elite in a "positive light".

OH NOES! A ficticious show about the upper class set in the 1920's will be the downfall of the Democratic party! Who will save us from the biting wit of the Dowager Countess?

What a bunch of morons. Have they even seen the show? The entire premise is looking back an era of the death of the aristocracy class in England. The entire series is devoted to the merging of families and drama between the wealthy Crawley family and its servants. Social class is broken by the mistakes and trials of each character that ultimately unites its cast by its common humanity. The youngest daughter pulls a Fiddler on the Roof, and the heir to the estate is a middle-class progressive lawyer whose mother is a raging liberal. Are they that stupid? Or did they just read the Netflix summary and think that because its a popular TV show about rich people, that it somehow "threatens the left?"

Uh...."Downtown Upstairs" does not show all of these people in a positive light...not at all. It does capture the end of an era when Britain's aristocracy were forced to radically change their lives.

It isn't a gloss piece about the rich....it is a tale about the rich coming to grips with a post Edwardian gilded age.

It is about the collapse of a centuries old system of feudal class distinctions, the rise of democracy and the challenges of Britain having to shed the fundamental philosophy of noblesse oblige.

But FOX and Fiends are too fucking stupid to realize this.
