Totally. Obama even goes out and oversees it personally, ensuring just the gay foreigners are kicked out with his checklist in hand.

Possibly, but I doubt it happens often at all. The administration doesn't make the laws unfortunately. However, they have chosen to stop defending them in court, which is a good first step on the list of what they can do. The President has spoken publicly in favor of equality and has actually accomplished a lot in terms of LGBT Americans.

I assume he keeps it on the same clipboard as his kill list of American citizens to assassinate without a trial.

The Obama admin has done more for gay rights than any other admin ever.

You mean the ones who have joined terrorist groups overseas?

    Pitch another one.

You mean he's following the DOMA law passed by a Congress he doesn't control? Hmmm…. Following the law: what a peculiar thing for a national leader to do...
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did. And like Michael Piemonte. And Joseph Wilcox.

sometimes... when it suits him, he'll also ignore the law via executive order, like when he sorta enacted the dream act by stopping deportations of illegals under 30.

but when it came to Don't Ask/Don't Tell or DOMA, he's somehow forced to follow unjust laws against his will.

So the problem is him for not governing entirely by executive order and not a Republican Congress that has blocked any forward progress on anything, no matter what it is, because they can't let a black Democrat in office succeed at anything.

    Got it.

This oughta be in CE&P Loki but you won't get much traction there either.

I'm probably just more cynical towards the man. speeches are great, but I think he'd have passed an executive order to ignore DOMA in a heartbeat if he thought it could have won him more votes than it would have lost. personally, I'm not holding my breath to see him spend political capital on trying to push Congress to actually repeal it.

Since Republicans will block 100% of anything that they can from Obama because it's from Obama, "what to spend political capital on" is almost moot. He might as well just try for what he wants since they're going to oppose it as if he just proposed making Satanism the national religion anyway.

Obama has slowly won me over with the inclusion and visibility of GLBT in his administration and in his policy. I am a little farther left (or alot) than most Democrats and initially Obama was too conservative for me ...and I still think he is too conservative (or centrist..whatever that is) on alot of his policy but he seemed to want to highlight a more liberal agenda versus the "centrist" one he usually portrays...so I am happy.

It's the law, not Obama's fault but Clinton's and the Republicans who keep buffing up the budget to protect DOMA.

Oh, and I'll just put this up here...

    http://joemygod.blogspot.com/2012/08...-marriage.html

After a two-year campaign urging the Obama administration to stop the deportations of spouses of gay and lesbian Americans, we welcome the announcement by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that it will formally recognize same-sex marriages as part of its year-old ‘prosecutorial discretion’ deportation policy. By articulating the first federal policy to recognize marriages of gay and lesbian couples, the administration signals to deportations officers, Immigration Judges, and Immigration & Customs Enforcement prosecutors that our marriages must be considered when determining whether a case is deemed low priority for deportation.
That we are capable only of being what we are, remains our unforgivable sin.

Right? It's like criticizing Bush because he didn't make the deficit big enough.

Nope. Just being cynical without any real reason. If one were to look at his actual record, they would know that his record has been quite solid in favor of civil and equal rights. And passing an executive order to ignore DOMA? It just doesn't work that. That needs to be worked out in Congress. So... you're mistaken.

I guess if someone repeats a falsehood enough they'll tend to believe it lol.

I don't know why the hell people keep assuming Obama could do all the things that only an absolute dictator could do. And no, Obama isn't emperor of the world either.

Executive orders can only be passed on matters that are policy and on a short term basis. DOMA is law and can only be worked out in congress.

Again, Obama isn't absolute emperor dictator of the country. The republicans have enough people in congress to block everything that comes from Obama. They even blocked their own bills written by them just because Obama endorsed them.

Pointing out how 'little' Obama has accomplished while claiming to want him to have accomplished more of the things in question (whether honestly or not) is usually just a way to deflect the blame from where it really lies, an obstructionist Republican minority hellbent on being against anything Obama wants, even if doing so hurts the country.

It's funny how some demand he do more for civil rights but act like a dictator... just extremely ironic.

^^ I actually agree with this comment, oddly enough. ^^ Most people have a false impression of what powers the president actually has and unrealistic expectations accordingly.

    True.

Sometimes I forget myself. I hate to go all The Fouding Fathers but the Founding Fathers made sure that all Presidents would be controlled so that the power didnt go to their heads.

Given that Stonewall was a seminal moment in North American homo rights history....in Canada it led to the fight back after the bath house raids which subsequently led to homos achieving all their rights under law......this was a moment of particular resonance and satisfaction for me.

Pretty much. I actually think that this checks and balance system is actually impeding our growth as a country. But then again, having a dictator limits other things. If only I could be dictator! I would give the best of both words, like Hannah Montana.
