Rating Threads: 5 Star Threads Vs Threads with no Stars

Anyone else notice One or more of their old Threads on this site get a 5 Star rating after Jub's upgrade/face-lift?

4 of my old threads did not have a 5 Star rating before the Site upgrade. Now 4 of them do but a couple do not. Are the Mods responsible or is this a Juber thing?

I still can't figure out the meaning of the pink and blue and grey envelope icons.

Pink means it's a girl, blue means it's a boy. Or it means hot and not-so-hot threads, based on the number of responses being under or over a certain threshold(which is 50?). Never noticed the grey before - I don't think I've ever seen them in a "New Posts" search. All the stickies seem to be pink no matter the number of responses.

One of my ancient threads in Fun and Games that is still kicking is 5 stars. Kind of unreal to me that I made that thread in 2005.

Google says that at the bottom left of all forum index pages is an icon legend, but I've never looked there before.

I see now that one can rate a thread 1 to 5 stars when replying, but where is the rating displayed?

They're right next to the thread titles. Take a look.

Thanks. They're weren't any stars on the first page of "Hot Topics" when I looked before, though there are a couple at the moment. I'm not seeing any stars showing for this thread although I gave it three.

Ah, I guess two votes does it. It's appearing now.

Used to be 5 or 6 ratings before it would show.

I believe EJ is right...at least 5 votes needed to register, at least that's the way I think it used to be.

If you go up to "rate this thread" (upper right) and open the tab, you can hover over the "current rating" and see how many votes there currently are. As of this post, there are 6 votes with an average of 1.83.

Aside from this thread, most people only rate threads they like. Rarely do you see threads with rating less than 4/5 stars (not me tho.)

Thanks Guys for your replies....I thought in order to get a 5 star thread the Thread itself would have to receive MANY (Hundreds) of votes. I don't think the Thread Rating system is explained in detail anywhere on this site....

As of matter of fact I don't think most Jubers even think about rating threads or they forget the option is there....
