It's horrifying, I just hope there is enough Internet in those kids' lives to counter the Christianism... Here's a sample:

As a dedicated Christian, I have to agree. There has never been a "Christian" movement that turned primarily to and on politics which has accomplished anything good (with the arguable exceptions of a few German princes in Martin Luther's time).

Another barbaric part of US history that must be destroyed for our Constitution gurantees seperation of state and freedom of religion. So Native Americans and non Christian groups should be given equal rights.

My family of about 300 (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th cousins) have been a major thorn in my side just because I'm gay. The 1st group are dieing out and will soon be joined with the 2nd group. I think the 3rd and 4th are understanding.

The Texas School Board are the GOPpers that rewrite the text books. Including creationism and removing main characters in the Constitution. They say evolution does not exist and of course climate change. I can think of more later!

It's true that entirely different cultural worldviews and hsitories about the concept of property were clashing in the settlement of the Americas.

However not having a notion of land title to which the newcomers could subscribe was made rather moot by the point that they didn't honestly care what the native concept of landholding was-- and, the bits of it they did understand, they used to their advantage to press the signing of land cession documents knowing that the Natives had only a vague and novel concept of permanent "title" to land.

The historical preference for the 'legitimacy' of ownership via titles and written documents for establishing superior claim is still alive and well, perhaps even moreso than in the past, but in the case of early contact we should bear in mind only one side was doing the claiming and writing and written documenting. In one particular case I know of, white colonists near the Iroquois Confederacy decided they didn't like the limits on their last treaty and said well, since they don't write and since we have the document, let's just go back and claim it said something other than it actually did. When they did so the Iroquois called out their "memory keepers" who recited, line for line by memory, the conditions of the treaty verbatim.

Busted.

Of course, that's one story. Had no one written that story down we would just think the treaty had said all along whatever the colonists wanted it to.
