I don't see the thanks. Or are you not thankful that for the first time in history your President cares about YOUR personal rights?

Don't worry. I'll be carefully monitoring for any secret Kenyan agenda as he works for gay equality.

I have a nose for these things.

Obama evolved in his support for gay rights after being forced to by Biden -- otherwise he'd still be evolving. He had no choice.

    Who cares.

My parents evolved on gay issues because they had a son who was gay.

This is how progress is done. Bit by bit, person by person, story by story.

I realize Republicans take far more comfort in the idea of a crystallized monolithic set of ideas that NEVER CHANGE ONE WHIT, but that's why they're poor leaders looking backwards.

The Ceremony was absolutely positively fantastic. The Sea of Flags waving along the Mall was a sight to see. I don’t recall ever seeing citizens wave Flags during an Inauguration…Great idea by the Inaugural committee.. Activist Myrlie Evers-Williams gave what I felt was a thought provoking and memorable Invocation. The message was universal and was fitting for the Inaugural theme. Poet Richard Blanco did a good job delivering an original poem and I liked how he added a bit of his own story. I’m going to read his poem online before I give his oral recitation another listen to.

President Obama’s speech was Powerful and he touched on things we never expected him to mention. He was VERY direct, spoke in plain English and the entire world listening in should feel inspired. I am so Proud he’s our President and I’m looking forward to more great things to come from his Administration.

Shifting towards being in favor of equal rights is a lot better than the republicans who devolved backwards. No, it is arguable that Obama supported gay marriage for quite a few years. He was going to announce it regardless of what Biden said. And the republicans... what have they done to support same sex marriage? Absolutely NADA.

I'm with you, MisterM. He came out confidently and forcefully. I wanted him to stand up against the faces of hatred and treachery. FDR once said he welcomes the hatred of those against him... at least it'll expose who they are.

Compare and contrast: When our lord and savior St. Ronald Wilson Regan announced his candidacy for president, he made the announcement from Philadelphia, Mississippi - the place where Medgar Evers was murdered. How uniquely Republican!

They won't. Too many of them are too busy calling him a n*gger under their breath or figure out a new way to say it without saying it (if you know exactly what I mean)...

Perhaps it is a not so subtle indication to the conservatives on the Supreme Court that they risk historical opprobrium if they uphold DOMA and strike down marriage equality. It was huge, and certainly shows where the president's head and heart is at.
It does for this moment, but what about later?

His previous stance (before the last election) was anti-gay rights, was it not?

Right now he has about five appointees with backgrounds in the Muslim brotherhood in his administration, and has just awarded Egypt's Muslim brotherhood with four F-16s. So his affinities with the Muslim Brotherhood are being given concrete form. Is there, as the right has been alleging, an ideological affinity with that group? If so, what about that's group views on gays -- Similar or not to Obama's?

Will his views on gays likewise undergo another opportune change?

    Absolutely not.

"In a '96 candidate questionnaire when Obama was running for Illinois State Senate, he stated: "I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.""

    Obama was pro-gay marriage in....

    1996.

So why do people keep going on with that ridiculous comment about Obama being anti-gay rights? Present some shreds of proof.

Right now he has about five appointees with backgrounds in the Muslim brotherhood in his administration, and has just awarded Egypt's Muslim brotherhood with four F-16s. He has no such thing and the relations with Egypt are very chilly right now. Almost frigid. The US and Egyptian President Morsi are not talking. Here is a suggestion, stop making such false suggestions with no real evidence.

The so called "F-16" donation of four fighters was not confirmed. It was only "confirmed" by a "source" to FOX NEWS.

Will his views on gays likewise undergo another opportune change?
He's been pro-equality since the mid 1990s. There was no "opportune change".

Obama was never anti-gay... but keep it up with the blatant falsehoods.

love that Obama reads a speech someone else wrote off a teleprompter and everyone is moved by his words and leadership but those same people are appalled that Beyonce lip synced.

    Including one of yours.

All that I can say is, there seem to be a lot of guys around here who need some dick!

    AND NOW!

I'm personally having a good week right now, please don't make me come back into this thread.

Any evidence to support the President didn't write his speech? Also, it was a long speech, so why not have a teleprompter? Most people can't remember a 10-15 minute speech word for word.

Presidents never write their own speeches, but they have full control over the writing, and have to approve the final result. They are also directly responsible for hiring the person who writes it. Any speech Obama gives is as much his, as is humanly possible for someone who is at the top of the United States.

History reveals the same comment applies to your beloved former President/Vice-President's "evidence of weapons of mass destruction" for the Iraq war. However, in that case, not only did money "evaporate", so unfortunately did the lives of so many people. And for what? A war based on faked-up lies.

Now, as to your point about money spent on this inauguration, huh???
