I did get a kick out of the looks that "The Veeper" gave Beyonce. Biden's tongue was hanging out of his mouth --- however Biden's son looks like he swallowed some sour grapes.

For the first time in history, a president mentioned gay rights in his inaugural address.

For the first time in history, a president wants to do the right thing by us.

    It is remarkable.

You're ruining the very loud day of public mourning and wounded water buffalo bleating that should be taking place.

I thought his speech was powerful and rather moving. His recognition of gay rights is historical, but it also represents real leadership. His own stance on gay marriage progressed through his first term, his support of the issue now is strong and NOT politically prudent. Real leaders sometimes do what's right, not always what is expedient.

Despite unprecedented hostility, record filibustering and a stagnant global economy, Obama's first term achieved a surprisingly great deal of substantial policy achievement. I'm looking forward to his second "gloves-off" term.

You know, Cowpoke....Laura Bush is three million times the person the murderer Ted Kennedy was, EVER. She was horrified by what she did, and it was NOT intentional. Ted Kennedy was too concerned anout his political career to ever give a rats ass about what happened to his pregnant mistress, Mary Jo Kopechne...let her drown, maybe even intended to get rid of a problem that could cost his polotical career. Celebrate the inauguration all you want, but some people talk about sour grapes on the Republican side...well the only thing worse than a sore loser is a sore , in your face winner. So stfu regarding your joyful slandering of Laura Bush.

Tell you what Saucer, I'll say whatever the Hell I want to about the Stepford First Lady. It's interesting another rightie defends her criminal (?) activities. Was she drunk when she ran the stop sign? Where is the original police report? I smell a coverup.

One thing is I do feel sorry for her with that dipshit drunk war criminal husband she remained married to. Good thing she told him to stop with the carousing or she was gonna leave him with her two trampy daughters. Or did that dried up old hag of a mother in law threaten her?

Four more years! It really sucks to be a bitter repug....

Typical. Just another weak defense of another criminal republican married to criminal husband. It seems to me the faux neutrality has been exposed as just false. When someone is talking about Laura Bush swiftly change the subject.

You could say that Laura Bush is better than Hitler too. She only killed one person. And what the fuck does Ted Kennedy have to do with anything? Comparing Laura's situation to Ted's situation is admitting she is a murderer only 3 million times better at it.

But leave it to Springer for thinking he has to defend Laura because she wears a pant suit. Guess pantsuit wearers need defending.

Yeah, some people mistake ungracious (which I proudly admit to) with sore. The only way I could be a sore winner is if I've had a particularly successful and wild night.

Yeah, they just HAVE to. It's not at all a single post, responding to another Republican bullshit. It's totally the ten topics we posted within two days out of boredom to bash Laura Bush.

Get real please, and stop trying to be sarcastic by using other people's words against them. You are woefully bad at it.

A quarter of the number of people there that were there four years ago, the seats were cleared in a matter of minutes, hardly anyone on the side of the road except very close to the WH. Want any other reasons?

Springer, you're the one who believes pant suits need defending and you did it by trashing the First Lady.

Where's your defending of a deceased Senator?

Is this "85%" a new collective term to describe those who were formally called The Dead?

*yawn* Does one have anything else to say? There were still many people there, and perhaps more than his predecessors. Dream on. Want any other reasons? For what? Some other little outrage about it being boring?

    Re: The Inauguration

This was an amazing day. I caught myself singing along with our countries cherished songs. I thought all of the performers did an awesome job. This isn't the top forty. This is our country. I stood and sang the national anthem with the ceremony. Do you know the words and do you sing along as well? I was a bit embarrassed by the crooked handed salute of one of my brothers-in-arms. Only a bit though.

The thing that gives me an almost euphoric sensation is the idea that such immense power is transferred during this ceremony regularly, peacefully. It is truly an inspiration. Thank you all for mentioning the historic aspects of the Stonewall mention. I listened to the entire speech but I allowed it to wash over me instead of trying to analyze it.

I chuckled as I watched VP Biden after kissing his wife, his son's wife, and then his son, each of them on the cheek; He then approached the President. I could almost hear Obama saying "Don't kiss me bro" as Biden leaned in for a hug.

The cadence of each of their oaths was strained. I have taken and administered hundreds of oaths. You must practice if it is to be in front of a huge audience. Cadence is key.

The limo was impressive. I have seen it in a detailed show previously. It is an amazing machine. I think they said it gets ~8mpg. However, seeing it up close reminded me of how sturdy they build such a protected ride.

It still gives me goosebumps and makes my heart swell every time I hear that oath administered. It is not just an oath. They are not just words. He is merely a President. Yes merely a President. We all take that oath to defend the nation and the document which guides its course. That oath and that document is us. I hope we have bled enough for it in this generation. I sincerely hope we can move on. Move forward.
Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.

What a great, smaller inauguration appropriate to a second term and to get straight to work for the challenges of our times. I am proud to have voted for a president who stands for the ideals of inclusion, equality, and innovation for the future. There wasn't a single principle he stated in his speech that I disagreed with.

    And wow!

For the first time in American history, President Obama singled out our gay community and told the nation that they will never be equal until they recognize us as equal citizens. That was a huge gesture. That was a defining moment in our civil rights history, and I wish some of you would have acknowledged that more, than harp on your disagreements with a political party. You have no idea just how significant that moment was to our civil rights history.

Indeed. When it comes down to it, all of us want to be recognized equally under the law. I will applaud any Democrat or Republican who stands up for us, even when it is unpopular to do so. In the end, we will have equality, but it will only come sooner by those leaders who will stand up with courage and conviction for us.

Never said I didn't accept it.

    Re: The Inauguration

It was an excellent speech, in my opinion, - and better than the first one.

We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths – that all of us are created equal – is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall; just as it guided all those men and women, sung and unsung, who left footprints along this great Mall, to hear a preacher say that we cannot walk alone; to hear a King proclaim that our individual freedom is inextricably bound to the freedom of every soul on Earth.

Stonewall? At a presidential inauguration? Thank you Mr. President!

Why does that bother you so much?

Are you afraid that he is too much like GWB?

I didn't watch yesterday, but was there an actual oath taken?

I'd have thought that would have been redundant since the legal inauguration and swearing-in was on Sunday.

I tuned in to catch the oaths. Then I went off to do something more useful.

And as expected, the usual suspects here are all out to turn the whole thing into a slanderfest -- a striking example of how Congress has managed to demonize itself so thoroughly.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

Everything was done yesterday like it was official. Millions of dollars evaporating into the cold.
