By and large, my true confessions are met with a much higher degree of skepticism than my insincere confessions. Especially when it comes to family. I guess suspecting the unknown is easier than accepting the known, so true confessions get blown off while bullshit gets a pass.

Honesty guarantees nothing. Confessions can't be controlled.

I will assume we are talking about the confession of some wrongdoing and not, let's say, the confession of love to another person.

The nature of true confession of wrong is humbling. As it should be. When the confession comes with the addendum "this doesn't make me a bad person" or "at least I didn't kill someone", the confessor is less than contrite or honest.

A good chunk are gossip. "I confess I have a ten-inch cock." "I confess I had sex with three different guys last night...and a fourth is pounding me as I type this." Meant to enhance your reputation rather than cleanse your soul.

Other are mild admissions. "I confess to loving Gangham Style." "I confess I cried at the end of Bambi." Maybe mildly embarrassing, but nothing beyond that.

Still others are quiet requests for pity. "I confess I cried myself to sleep last night again." "I confess I feel very lonely all the time." I'm not deriding those who try to get emotional strokes any way they can get them, but they're not really confessions.

A true confession, I think, was like posting my first nude photo. Literally. Laying yourself out bare, showing not just the positive sides but the negative as well. And just as uncomfortable, since you don't know how people will react.

I don't have anything to confess, so far as I know. Maybe I'll think of something later.

The worst thing I have done in the past 10 years....and if you judge me it is OK because I judge myself all the time because of this...

I have a horrible case of Survivors Guilt and it sometimes cripples me...

I helped with a quilt early on and I can't even get in to the building to see it or any of the rest of them...I can't stop crying. It is too much for me...this is the only thing I hope to still overcome because I REALLY want to see the quilt...I have accepted that I will have to live with the rest of it...

So...my confession...when I was on facebook after a short time when a couple people found me I got a slew of friend requests from people I hadn't seen in years...and I accepted them...and then the new stories (and some old one) of what HIV and AIDS has done to them and requests for help and companionship...and I totally freaked out.

The thing is...I have nothing left. I lost too many people and I was very involved and I just can't face it anymore...and there is NO WAY I am going to say that to any one of them...so I left like a coward. My official reason is that facebook is creepy...and it is for me... because it is nothing but a marketer's wet dream IMO... and just imagine if Hitler had access to Facebook...YIKES...and I probably would have left anyway...but I just can't handle dying and death anymore. I yell at myself for being a prick because my discomfort is nothing compared to what they are going through and I dont' think I have any right to feel the way I do...but I do feel that way and I have tried but I can't help it.

So...that's it.

No doubt everyone can forgive Bendy, but, as is always the prerogative of the transgressed, forgiven is a choice.

I look back on the PMs and comments I have had with Bendy over the months, and I can't find anything to forgive from my perspective. He never asked me to admire him, never sent pics or anything of that nature to get into my good graces, and never encouraged me to be a devotee. We were online friends, mostly with humor or philosophic discussions, as I am with dozens of guys here. To be sure, it was fun in a different way due to the perception that it was with a sage and handsome young Scot, but not predicated on that.

To the point that he misrepresented himself, I resigned myself a few years back to that not being the most important thing, as I remember my dear friend RobertAC and his mea culpa about his fabricated relationship on here. I was and am certain that Robert is a fine man, just one who wanted something, something basic, so very, very much. I can see that may be the case for Bendy, but I'm not assuming that, just giving it room to be.

I have several good friends on JUB and have never seen their real faces, such as Anders123, Sixthson, and others, and I love them no less for it, so I don't have to see Bendy to remain his friend.

As for coming clean, that would provide closure in my mind and probably for others, but coercion is a poor motivation. I'm interested in people, and Bendy remains a man whom I'd like to understand more, so I'm here for that when he wants to share it, privately or otherwise.

Others have the right to not feel that way, and justly, so I have no upbraiding for them either. This forum is a voluntary confederation, and none of us have an onus to like everyone here.

I guess what it comes down to at the end of the day is that not one of us can actually trust one another to be open and honest about ourselves on JUB. As long as no one is socio-pathologically vile and destructive, I can live with that.

Perhaps that's because those of us furthest from the situation can see it the clearest. If you have forgiven him, that's all to the good. And if anoyne wants to think less of me for thinking less, that's of course up to them.
