    iTunes question

    Hey Everyone,

I know this may be a silly/ignorant question. I just not as tech savvy as a lot of people and I do not understand all this talk about clouds and what not. Heck, I never even turned all that mess on my iMac and iPhone.

Anyway... my question is about iTunes. I have quite a bit of music on my computer that will eventually move it all to a 1-2 TB external hard drive along with all my pictures, movies, and what not. I have copied A LOT of my CDs to my iTunes and am slowly getting rid of the CDs through various venues. Now I think I believe enough to know that iTunes does back up what you buy from them but is everything on your iTunes backed up with them? Like if anything ever happened to my computer or an external hard drive (knock on wood) I would want to know that everything I have on here would be OK? I would hate to copy all 400 CDs I have and get rid of them all just to have to rebuy music I had previously had on here. Is there a way to go into iTunes and check if it is being backed up?

Any help anyone can provide would be extremely helpful!

    Thank you in advance
    That is so fetch!

I was thinking the same thing about data in Icloud. I was going to watch a youtube video to find out more about it. I just dont trust something that I cant see.

    It stays there 30 days.
THere is/will be Imatch which is for all the ripped cd. It cost $25 a year

The one problem I have with it is that I ripped data to blank dvds. It was video clips of men. One day, it all disappeared from 10 burned dvds. If that can happened, how can I trust Icloud?

Music you purchase off of Apple iTunes Store will be on iCloud and the new version will show you what songs are on your iCloud. Anything you import from physical discs will not be backed up. When you import make sure that it organizes your library by artist and album, imported music with messed up tags will be a splitting headache.

Copy your iTunes folder to the new external that way all your music you imported will be in the folder. iTunes 11 ditched a lot of amazing features that people say they never use any more.

    Thank you guys!

So if I get an external hard drive can I move my entire iTunes to it or should I just copy the files? The point of getting the hard drive is so I can free up space on my iMac so it runs better. If that makes sense.

Also when I delete things I buy how come they come back? If I delete something that means I do not want it anymore. This iCloud crap is just annoying!!!

If you get an external hard drive you can copy iTunes folder in Music and it should copy EVERYTHING including album art work that you download from the music that you import.

Freeing space might make it run better but sometimes after a while it just slows down with age, hubby's MacBook Pro has 35GB left and its running a bit slow, not sure if its the Internet.

When you delete music that you purchased from iCloud it will show up again, you can make it disappear by going to iTunes / Preferences / Store tab and then uncheck Show iTunes in Cloud purchases. It will disappear if you want them to show up just check that option again.

    New question

How do I stop the apps from re installing onto my devices

I thought you turned something off in Itunes but I read you turn off 'automatic download' on your device, under settings (in Itunes and app store)

How do I stop apps re installing?

Ive had ITouch for 2 and 1/2 years & Ipad for 1/2 year and I dont know how to do it.

    Thank you

If you move the physical music files to an external drive, whether you move only those files or the entire iTunes folder, the pathway of the music files to the iTunes app will change. You'll have to change it under iTunes>Preferences>Advanced. Just click the Change button and follow through.

Losing all your pix on a bunch of CDs all at once sounds more like a problem with the CD player/burner. If you can, try a CD in another player.

I had that problem in an old PowerPC G4. At first the CDs would play only in my computer. Then they stopped playing altogether. I was told the laser had gradually fallen out of alignment until it was so bad it couldn't even play the discs it had burned, which also was screwed up.
