They say that Java has security issues and Java is not doing anything to protect data.

Java not JavaScript is an open door to malware attacks. If you've run Software Update, Apple would have disabled or removed Java had it been present.

Run a Spotlight search on your machine for Java and see where it is (if it's still present). If it's in your internet plug-ins folder but you're wary of killing it, drag it onto the desktop and put it in another folder.

If you run a net search for
    Java Macs
you'll be reading stories about it and how to remove it (if it's still there) until the cows come home.

Java isn't dangerous only to Macs. PC users have been urged to dump it, as well.

This is a bit general so that I can't let it stand More mischief is done with Javascript, but *currently* a huge flaw has been found in Java, and the bad guys already use it for bad things. The vendor has not provided a fix yet - that's why Apple (and Firefox) disable Java for their users now. And everybody else should, too.

    Re: Java???

I thought I had better distinguish between the two because many people don't know they are not the same thing. So if JavaScript is disabled by mistake, the barn-door Java vulnerability remains.

I don't know how a Windows-machine search works, but a search for Java using Apple's Spotlight (which I long ago disabled because it's a turkey), JavaScript likely would show up in the search. So I mentioned it because the original poster asked about his Mac.
