Reflective of real Christianity:
The Very Rev. Gary Hall, the cathedral's dean, said performing same-sex marriages is an opportunity to break down barriers and build a more inclusive community "that reflects the diversity of God's world."
"I read the Bible as seriously as fundamentalists do," Hall told the AP. "And my reading of the Bible leads me to want to do this because I think it's being faithful to the kind of community that Jesus would have us be."
If the National Cathedral is going to host same-sex weddings, can the repeal of DOMA be far behind?
Don't cast aspersions on my asperagus.

This is, I think, could in fact be a very important event legally regarding the repeal of DOMA. If a mainline church recognizes same size marriage, the continuation of both DOMA and bans on same sex marriage infringes on religious liberty. Is the Supreme Court going to permit religious discrimination like this? I would hope not.

Re: National Cathedral to host 1st same-sex weddings
It think they focused on the wrong side...the entire Episcopalian Church has already sanctioned SSM (since like 2009). The travesty is that one of their major cathedrals is only just now starting. So technically, they should've already been doing them since 2010 (when DC passed SSM).
How is it that the National Cathedral has been allowed to ignore the issue (by the Episcopalian Church)? Why did it get special treatment and why wasn't it simply made so, universally, when the church allowed it? I mean, I'm glad they will be, but they should've already been performing them.

Why does the US have a subsidized Episcopalian cathedral?
Anyway, I'm glad it weds gay couples. It's a powerful symbol.

Tradition.
So that makes this "traditional marriage", right?
"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

And remember, it's The President's Church. With a pew reserved for the First Family since it was built.
They probably needed things to quiet down a bit in DC before they got deeply involved.
That, and as EasyRory pointed out when I posted a comment in his current story that he could get married there, if he was of a mind to -he's going to wait until they repair the earthquake damage from a year+ ago.
And I know, if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest . . .
