William Hilton Paul, 19, was arrested Saturday at Charlotte Douglas International Airport for alcohol-related offenses.

William Hilton Paul, the 19-year-old son of Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and grandson of former presidential candidate Ron Paul, was arrested Saturday morning for alcohol-related offenses at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, police said.

After arriving on a U.S. Airways flight from Lexington, Ky., police charged Paul, who lives in Bowling Green, Ky., with three misdemeanors, including consuming beer/wine underage, disorderly conduct and being intoxicated and disruptive.

Both of Bush Jr's daughters have MIP arrests, they got away with it far more often - the cops would call daddy, poof, no crime. In fact they only started getting called on it when Daddy went to Washington, and reporters started finding pissed of restaurateurs.

I;m sure they've both grown up since then - and we all drank under-age. What's more damning is that apparently he was being a ginormous tool about it.

As to castigating the airline or any other third party in this type

of situation, perhaps the legal to vote violator and user of those

fraudulent I.D. papers is the one who needs to be fined/punished.

Or the people who mixed their DNA together to birth him. One of

this country's most heinous faults is its' present myopia and abject

failure to see the forest for the trees. This is just a silly minor

incident that illustrates many larger ones.

I didn't drink alcohol till I was 22, and I know plenty of people who didn't touch it till their 21st birthdays (it's rather easy to verify
they've never had any when the first beer has them wobbly and the second has them falling down).


As for the kid here, there have been suggestions that his fraternity bros got him plowed before he took off, and may have sent some with him.

And as for policy, my view is that anyone who can make it into a university should be allowed to drink.

I drank at 19... but that wasn't in the US... and the drinking age in that country was 16 or 17. I think 21 is too high of a drinking age.

At 27, I really don't drink anymore.

We tried drinking at 18 back in the 70s and all the 18 thru 21 group did was over do it. Made them change it back.
I voted for years for the age to be changed to 18 (that was when I was in my 20s and out of the Navy) and they fucked it up.

I drank and drove when I was underage, and the legal age to drink then was 18. In the 1970s in New York and New Jersey, one could get served a drink if one were tall enough to reach the bar to put cash on it.

Not much of a story here. He must have been a little disruptive to have gotten arrested. I wouldn't hold this against him or his family. He's hardly the first 19 yr old to do something a little foolish. I don't believe in holding youthful transgressions against someone for the rest of eternity.

Our probationary drinking period went from age 5 to 14. Then we were on our own, because we combined booze and pot.
