Networking Help :(
Hey guys,
I'm in the process of doing something a little different with my home network. It's an older home, and it's in the middle of nowhere, so we only have one service provider, and of course there's no wiring for ethernet. So, the guys came out from New Wave and ran the line, and installed the modem. The wifi from the modem isn't broad enough to cover the entire house, so I decided to bridge another router. I ran new Cat5e to every room in the house, and tested everything and it's all working well, as well as the new router.
So here's the tricky part. I'm working on installing a security system, and the cameras have the ability of being accessed remotely from the internet. The DVR for the camera is located in the garage, which has one line ran to it, but also has a desktop PC. So I have to use a HUB to connect the cameras and the computer to the one line.
Here's my setup then: [modem]-[router]-[hub]-[dvr]
My issue is accessing the cameras remotely. I have no issues accessing the cameras on LAN, from the iPhone app or from my computer, the only issue is being away from home. I think I'm having a port forwarding issue, but I'm not entirely positive. Does anyone have any experience with setting up this kind of thing? Is the DVR running through too many devices before accessing the modem?
Thanks for any help!

Re: Networking Help :(
To access the cameras from outside your network, you will have to open and forward the ports on your router to the camera(s). There was a website the had instructions for just about every router, though I forget its name. A bit of googling should find it. Also, you indicate you've using a 'hub'. If it is indeed a hub, you'll want to use a gigabit switch.
I see no issues using the DVR however you'd like to. It should work regardless of how it's connected.

Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.
Give a man religion, and he'll starve praying for a fish.
