Or if you have a strong suspicion of them lying?
Yesterday my landlord called to get the rent check. Well it was a message at around 7:45 pm but I had gone out for the night and when I got back it was to late to call her back.
She said she would be in the area and wanted to pick up the rent check. Problem is that I had already given the super the check on Thursday.
She had said that she was gonna be here at 7, I assumed am but I was gonna be asleep and I had already paid rent so i didn't care.
This morning she called at 10am. I was asleep so didn't get the phone in time. Then I called her back. For whatever reason she didn't answer until about the 7th continuous time I tried. Then I explained that I had already paid it to the super. She said okay, but she's Korean and almost impossible to understand the little bit of English she speaks.
So after I told her I called the super and told him she left me a message last night and to let her know next time when he gets the check. Then he tells me he told her he had the check this morning. That was the lie. I then told him that I just spoke to her a few minutes ago.
I wanted him to know that I knew he was lying, but I played it off like maybe she didn't understand him either. But if you are not a good at telling lies than don't try it.
