really good story - had read it smiled and forgot about it - just looked it up again

Seems that two gay men were holding hands on a pizza truck line in Columbus, Ohio - in the Short North section which is really cool actually and pretty gay as well

When the str8 guy saw the two guys holding hands he told them to "cut that gay shit out"

At which point:
Many of the other people on line told him to chill - gay and str8 - no one lost their cool just told the dude that his behavior was lame. The guy kept it up so the pizza truck workers leaned out and told him he wasn't getting his pizza.

One of the two men posted it on facebook and it became an overnight sensation of a story

Very cool

Columbus is quite a liberal city. Tolerance is pretty common there.

The same can also be said of most of Ohio's cities, with the striking exception of Cincinnati. From 1993 to 2004, Cincinnati was the most anti-gay city in America as a result of Amendment 12 to the city's charter. That law made it illegal for gays to seek justice from the courts for any anti-gay discrimination whatsoever. We finally managed to get a Democratic mayor in 2004 who was able to get it repealed.

In 1982...my partner and I held hands whenever we were out walking in the City of Toronto. Only one guy ever commented about us doing it in public and after I offered to give him the name of a good dentist, he decided that it was okay after all.

In December, while in TO for some shopping, I saw several boy couples hand in had. So sweet.

Glad to see that the the good people of Columbus are just glad to see love where they find it.

I still own a house in the city because my mom lives there and would only be happy in that city.

Great story from Columbus. Nice to see something positive coming out of Ohio. Although I suppose the election result was positive all the news coming out was about a corrupt SoS who was trying to rig the election in every way possible.

my first (only) bf used to not want to hold hands here in Astoria - he was worried about other people bothering us - he was not much of a public display of affection - it used to bother me about him - he was much naturally progressive about politics but on this he was IMO "in the closet"

I find it hit and miss, depending on the area. I run into intolerant, conservative bigots around here all the time. All of Columbus is not like the Short North, unfortunately. Gays being seen openly holding hands around the rest of the city is just not that common. . . yet.

The thing that scared me about this story was the possibility of the homophobe having a gun or returning with one. Too many guns; too many pissed off people. I hope the story is over but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not.
