What do you guys think of Zero Dark Thirty?

This is quite a disturbingly unpleasant movie to watch, seems very brutal pro-torture propaganda.

Just because torturing people works and gets confessions doesn't make it the right thing to do.

Just like Argo, it's merely based upon a true story. Most of it is probably just Hollywood. I don't expect much of it to be actual fact. ('Argo' was almost totally fabrication.)

The Senate is investigating what the CIA told the movies makers because it does not seem to jive with reality. I haven't seen the film but I am sure I eventually will. So I really dont have an opinion on the film. it is rather extraordinary that the Senate intelligence committee is looking into the CIA's affairs over a movie that is described as dramatized fiction.

I see that the dvd screener is all over the internet.

But it seems like it will be very 'America Fuck Yeah', no? Hm.

    Will watch it soon enough.

The marketing of this film is suspect. It first came out for a very limited release to critics two months ago. It finally get's a full release next week, after months of getting hyped by critics and commercials. I'm guessing it can't really be that good. I'm hesitant to spend money to watch it. Critics haven't been very reliable lately.

I am glad that he was taken out and disposed of in the way he was. I think it was the right thing to do. But I'm not sure that glorifying the event with a film is appropriate. I may or may not see it but I'll definitely wait for Netflix if I do.

There's only one reason this movie and Argo were made, and that is to make money. Unlike a documentary, these 'glamified' movies are undoubtedly more entertainment than truth. The entire ending of Argo, for instance, was rewritten simply because the truth was rather anticlimactic and would have left the audience disappointed.

I think the question is why would Kathryn Bigelow (the director) and Mark Boal (the writer) be interested in including brutal pro-torture propaganda in their film? Is it because they themselves are pro-torture or is it simply because it's something to talk about? Which is something we all seem to be doing. It's certainly creating a buzz around the film and getting people interested in seeing the film.

I just wish we knew the real story behind all of this.

I will be seeing the film this weekend.
