Re: Oscars coming up: Actors/Actresses you think are horrible

I can't believe some people don't like Michelle Pfeiffer, her performance in Age of Innocence opposite Daniel Day Lewis and Winona Ryder was PHENOMENAL!

Same goes for Sally Field--Steel Magnolias along with her performance as Mary Todd Lincoln was amazing!

This all subjective I suppose. People like who they like, and some people don't like certain people. As for me...I cannot stand to sit through another Tyler Perry movie, they were good in the beginning, and I enoyed the "homey" feelings of his plays, but he's going too far with this Madea franchise. I mean "Madea Gets a Job"...? C'mon, time to through down the wig and hang up the dress, man.

I have a feeling pat means they "bow down" or "pay lipservice" to the correct Jewish "gods". And I also have a feeling you already knew that. I'm just surprised that a man so vehemently against the PC brigade and the homosexual thought police feels the need to obfiscate his certainly-well-documented claim. Perhaps the reach is farther and heavier than even he claims it is.

Bradley Cooper is awful compared to what he is portrayed to be by media and fans. Not Oscar-worthy.

All three stars for Twilight are awful actors.

I never watch it. I only care about the final results, so yeah.

I always thought they were behind it. The fact that I think 90% of the stuff they produce lately is complete garbage, leaking it out if the only way to get people to watch the shit.

I made a mistake when I said Michelle Pfeiffer...I get her confused with Rene Russo. I was thinking Rene Russo when I said Michelle. I like Michelle...it is Russo who I think is a walking piece of plywood.

The last movie I watched in a theatre was The Princess Bride. The last time I watched the Oscars was many years before that.

    I won't be watching.

We record it and watch it the following night when we can edit out all the boring shit and commercials.

Brings it down to about an hour.

I don't think someone should have to pay their dues before winning an award designated as the best of the year. The best is the best - it's unfortunate that some years have stronger competition than others. But that's the way chips fall. I love Jennifer Lawrence and thought Silver Linings was an excellent film. I was holding out for Jessica Chastain to win, but what can you do?

As for Streep and Day-Lewis, I think both are exceptional and deserving of their three awards. Having said that, the gaps between them shouldn't matter too much. Recognition is recognition. What is egregious are the greats who never won Oscars - Peter O'Toole, Deborah Kerr, Alfred Hitchcock...etc.

As for whether Day-Lewis' films make money - if we're running on box office, Robert Downey Jr, for all the box office he's brought in should have won. And The Avengers, Dark Knight Rises or Skyfall should have scooped all the other awards.

Re: Official 85th Annual Academy Awards Thread

I'm not really sure I see your reasoning. A lot of Oscar-bait films aren't funded by big Hollywood studios. Usually, they are independently funded, do the rounds at various festivals and then get picked up for distribution by major studios if they are well received. If anything, those films serve as a try before you buy for the major Hollywood studios (case in point, last year's major winner The Artist). Having said that, there are exceptions to every rule.

    Let's agree to disagree.

(I am more or less happy with this year's winners.)
