The MODS sanitized them so now they're innocuous. But old copies are available from Amazon and Ebay.

Tomba 2.0 was like the epilogue on Dragnet - not sure he really counts.

^<nods> He had originally posted under the name of Mikami, if I recall correctly.

Funny thing, that. Once Mikami and I got into a political debate that turned bitterly nasty, and I had him on ignore. Later on, though, after I found about his work with rescued animals, I began to respect him like few others.

If he should decide to come back, I'll roll out the red carpet for him.

    Shut the Front Door.

You mean that Tomba was Mikami?

I have to agree that I would cut a world of slack to anyone who works with rescued animals.

It's said that any American under the age of 25 who isn't a Democrat lacks a heart. And any American over the age of 35 who isn't a Republican lacks a brain. I don't know as I agree with it, but it IS pithy.

It comes from exactly the same conceit Pat here shares... that anyone who "experiences real life" will "change their mind" and suddenly become regressive on everything and reduce the world to tax levels and abandon their views on anything else.

I think he thinks I'm much younger than I actually am. Btw Pat... my dad switched from Republican to Democrat in 2008 and hasn't gone back, and he's 63.

Anybody who is a republican at any age doesn't have a heart. It's a ridiculous statement (referring to that Lex made). And there is so much more than just democrat and republican. I'm not registered to either...

I think the age cutoff for that saying is probably a bit older.

People my age (millenials + gen Y) grew up with very pro-civil rights and environmental ideologies. For example, the multiracial team of environmental do-gooders in Captain Planet. The 80s decade was also the peak of school integration in America.

40+ year olds didn't have that in the 70s and earlier. So I'd say the people who are not very passionate about civil rights and the environment are in their 40s and older, and are more likely to see the Republican view of the world. Of course, that's a generalization, but it's a statistical fact that the youngest respondents in polls are the most pro-gay and pro-environment.

LGBTs are more likely to be liberal Democrats, CEP is a good microcosmic example, because we know what it's like to be demonized, and only those who have had their rights denied know what they are truly worth.

    That's exactly right, GC.

Lex, I rather think it's the other way around. A person with a brain, who watched the events of the 1980s and the 2000s unfold, couldn't help but to notice that those Republican ideas of deregulation simply don't work.

Each and every time they've tried it, disaster has unfolded.

I have begun to think of any deregulator as either 1)ignorant of history or 2)just plain stupid.

Does anybody know the story of the Dust Bowl? No regulations. They overfarmed. Disaster on a macrocosmic scale. The ecosystem completely collapsed. Roosevelt had to retree the whole area.

After experiencing Republicanism first-hand, I say, forever: "No, thank you."

Shit. Guess I'd be a heartless bastard if American. I strongly oppose social conservatism yet diligently support fiscal conservatism. Does this mean I'll be hating on us gays and advocating sweeping handouts by 35? Hope not!

In a nutshell I've held the same views since I was fourteen: 1) Let people live their own loving, caring lives with whomever they choose/believe in whatever they want without bringing harm to others, and 2) Let me spend and save my money in whatever form I like, but not give it all to my government.

I feel my views are very reasonable and do not believe they will change.

Unadulterated deregulation IS bad, but so is stifling regulation and bureaucratization. It's difficult to get the proper balance of sensible regulation while allowing for flexibility and freedom to innovate and build. Both sides are guided by the assumption they know best, conservatives overly confident about the wisdom of the marketplace while progressives favor the hand of government. Even in so called bastions of a socialist economy like in Scandinavia, there are turns to the relative left and right(plus what may work for a few million Swedes and Norwegians may simply not be applicable to over 300 million Americans. In Norway labor intensive industries are increasingly outsourced because of the hefty financial/regulatory cost of doing business even though Norway is more advanced than the US by some measures of way of life.

18th century London =/= 21st century America. If you're 'conservative' in the neocon Republican GOP sense in America today at any age you have both no heart and no brain.

In a vaccuum yes. Although I hate that people say these kinds of things giving the very false impression that we've ever really had equal amounts of either extreme, that both were as harmful, OR that the most recent set of economic problems in the U.S. were equally to blame for both. People always talk about these phantom "strangling" over-regulations that don't actually exist, but make it seem as though the whole reason we have to be careful in our criticism of blatantly and demonstrably harmful mass-deregulation is because of these "phantom" strangle-you-to-death overregulations.

^Callum, it must be understood that a Conservative in Canada (or is it Tory) is practically a Communist here in the United States.

I personally believe that Canada may have found a good balance in regulation. I see the real trouble in overregulation--really, I do. (Remember, I was a Reagan Republican).

But we Americans never seem to do anything by halves. They deregulated Wall Street, and came perilously close in fueling a complete world economic breakdown.

And please remember the Dust Bowl. Wall Street moved in the Farm Belt, and overfarmed 10X over capacity. Business will not, and cannot solve all of our problems. Just look what fruit it reaped:

This should be living proof that sensible countries need sensible regulation.

^To expand on this viewpoint, I don't think rightism works, anyway.

You want to know an interesting fact? For the 20 years prior to Socialist Hugo Chavez, the Venuzuelan economy stayed flat. Since his election, it has grown 400%.

Johann, I don't think your generalisation holds much 'verisilimitude'.

Every movie company and every 'star' employs a public relations team who ensures that the 'star' regularly donates a tiny amount of their employer's net value into 'humanitarian' causes.

If you're suggesting that every openly progressive rich person in entertainment is doing so falsely it's really up to you to substantiate that. There's no reasonable cause to presume a substantial amount of them are doing that. There's a heavy negative stigma that accompanies progressive celebrities as spoiled, out of touch and hypocritical, whereas a conservative celebrity gets a fast track to officeholding in the U.S. if they want it.

I'm glad to hear it. So many of these 'donations' are just emotional bribery.

One person in particular is afraid to go there and so he leaks his views in Hot Topics all the time. Yup.

Yeah but can you blame him. CEP is just soooo toxic and "opposing view" threads or posts are locked down or deleted right away without notice.

I don't think rabidly racist views would have a welcome home anywhere if they were actually expressed openly.

CE&P welcomes all viewpoints. Doesn't mean racism, xenophobia, sexism and homophobia (and it's depressing how many outright homophobes we have here) is part of any political discourse.
That we are capable only of being what we are, remains our unforgivable sin.

Then why do most of Hollywood celebrities openly campaign for Democrats?

    Pat, look deeper.

We can safely classify acting as a "creative art", and like all others--painters, etc.--they do tend to have leftist sympathies, in the same way that bankers and Wall Street types tend to have rightest sympathies.

I see nothing mysterious about it.

It breaks his more comfortable, simplistic worldview that anyone who actually has money or assets would "wise up" and become a conservative, so he chooses without foundation to dismiss that rich people are "really" progressive, and are just keeping up an appearance of it for tax or PR benefits.
