Re: Woman pushes Indian man under train

New York City police arrested a Bronx woman and charged her with second-degree murder as a hate crime for pushing an Indian man to his death at a Queens subway platform, The New York Times reported on Saturday

I don't know whether to bame America's inherant xenophobic paranoia for this or to castigate organised religion. Maybe it is a combination of both

This woman who committed the hate crime was certainly no better than the terrorists responsible for 911 attacks. My sympathies to the family of the victim. I think using sliding doors especially on high-traffic platforms is a great idea, should help in preventing incidents like this from happening.

I've always thought there should be some kind of railing, or wall, or something, along the platforms. People have been known to fall onto the tracks WITHOUT being pushed - such as having sudden health problems, or a faint, or something.

No, go ahead and blame America. We're shoving Indians in front of trains every day over here.

Think nothing of the 300 million people and the rarity or rate of incidence involved.

You just can't picture the racist maelstrom this country has become.

Oh, and the murderer was named Menendez: you forgot to blame Latinos.

How terrible. In some countries (such as Singapore), with newer train systems, they have platforms like this:

Size:	84.7 KB

When the train pulls in, its doors align exactly with the platform doors (sort of the same principle as an elevator). I imagine it would be prohibitively expensive to add these to all NY Subway stations, but maybe on a few of the busiest...?

Yeah, the woman is insane she was laughing in police custody at all the press attention she was getting--there are as many as 11,000 schizo nuts walking the streets in the city--many are homeless---and maybe someone will do something about it. It's a small thing that can help prevent some of these from happening--- people, don't stand on the edge of the train platform for any reason.

They weren't; they're just brown. And to an uneducated piece of scum that would push someone onto train tracks, the hijackers were brown, this man was brown, so they must be of the same race, creed, mentality, religion.

However, those installations are primarily for fire control, air flow, or HVAC concerns. I think 'safety' was just a side effect of their installation.

that's the crazy thing about the nyc subway system. people fall on the tracks and die there all the time. sometimes, you can see what looks like dry blood on the walls from where someone got hit by the train that haven't been washed off. there should be a railing to protect the passengers but it's never going to happen though.

A gate, it only opens when the train stops. Why don't they do this?

there's tons of problems to begin with which will keep this from ever happening. first and foremost, the mta is broke and always has money issues. they were to do something like that, it will probably take 20 or 30 years for them to do. keep in mind, they would probably have to rebuild all the subway stations too because they're really old. they took like 20 years to fix the track lines on the manhattan bridge and that's just the tracks. they take years to fix subway stations. they are backlogged for the most part. plus the city is way too busy to do a massive construction plan like that.
