I don't see myself regretting getting it in twenty years.. the text is arabic for "son of cush"... as in the cushite people (first black people mentioned in the koran/bible... descendents of Ham/Noah). What do you guys think?

This will be my first tatoo... I'm excited and scared at the same time AARGH

If you don't see yourself regretting it in twenty years, you don't have to care what we think.

It's that you in your display pic, you're fine with or without the tattoo.

Actually. I'm surprised black people were mentioned in the Bible and Koran. Didn't know that.

not "black people".. but one and two can be put together.

I'm getting it in the middle of my back, right under my neck (between the shoulder blades).. maybe about 4-5 inches wide..

or on my right shoulder muscle

Re: need advice about this tatoo

Do as you please... me personally, I HATE tats.

Not sure why, I change too much is part of it, and we all perceive others through the lens of our own being, which is the only human being we have a real chance of truly knowing.

No tats--my perspectives and tastes change too much over time, and have for decades.

...and shallowly (because we all have that, aesthetic aspect within us) yesterday is yesterday, I AM TODAY

No tat can or ever will embrace that. Tats are the past, reverberating into the future. I have a future, built upon the past, not in the image of the past.

good luck with that (lasers can burn it away if you regret, so not as horrid as it was)

And personally, I would stop after this tattoo. The more you get, the more you risk getting shitty tattoos. Your body will become a tacky mess, no matter how much you delude yourself otherwise.

You'll look hottest with just the one. IMHO.

In this climate of world problems I would not recommend getting anything with Arabic writing. Also if you are going to get such an intricate lion image you need to get a great artist or it's gonna look like a bad cartoon. Certain colors don't show up on black skin either.

If this tattoo holds such deep meaning for you then i would say go for it , and i have to agree with illgetbi defo between your shoulders
    abd below your neck.

As others have said the piece looks quite elaborate so yep find a very good Artist whose fine-line work is .

Wishing you well in your choice "i think it looks amazing" .

Get your tat person to put a false one on first, this is a check for quality and looks. It may cost but you are making a life long decision.

I am not a big tat fan, how dark is your skin ?

There were three guys on the train the other day - not together - and they had sleeves and chest tats, they looked a mess.

There are sights on the net - I am sure you know - anyway, search them.

    Just my 2 bobs worth..................

OK. So, because you are black, you are just going to get this because it refers to a certain group of black people? Do you actually have Cushite ancestry (they are from the Horn of Africa and the region surrounding it) or do you just feel a connection with them...? I'm not getting it.

As for the design, did you come up with it? What does the lion and the star mean? Did you confirm with several people that the Arabic text in the design is 100% accurate with no errors? I think the detailing of the lion will probably not show up well on very dark skin.

Why the rush? If you are scared/hesitant, wait several months to a year. It shouldn't be a problem since you claim that you'll never grow tired of the design, even after twenty years.

Wait and see if your enthusiasm for this design wears off and in the meantime, this will give you time to think about it.

Once again I must insist that people who want a tattoo of any kind MUST learn to spell TATTOO first.

If you cannot spell the word tattoo you have not spent enough time researching your ink. Again. The tattoo artist is not responsible for your tattoo. Only for the quality of the image you provide for them.

Here is the deal with foreign language tattoos...most artists don't know shit about languages or how to write properly. So make sure each letter and word will be carved correctly because in some languages, the slightest of mishap in how letters are written, changes meaning or makes it look incorrect.
Second issue chose location of tattoo very carefully. I can promise you, there will be a 1 or 2 TSA agents who will flag you down if they see this tattoo and will think possible home grown Jihad from the hood with Lion roaring in Arabic letters ready to eat zebras (infidels.)

Re: need advice about this tatoo

A bit of a laugh, a local guy went to Thailand and got a tattoo (spelling), he was a member of the team that had won the day premiership,on closer examination of the finished job ,he found that the artist had written "gay" instead of "day"
    BEWARE.

It's a very nice design, I love the geometry and Lion's face
You mention possibly regretting it... but since it's going to be in your back and you won't see it anyway I don't think you will get tired of it
And if you do, you can still get i laser-removed, if it's not too large...

No, I am just realistic. The woman who pushed the guy in front of a subway in NYC did it because she thought he was Muslim. I'm not saying he shouldn't get it, just be aware that there are people who don't respect other people's cultures and will act out violently on it.

There is a difference we are not in conflict with Japan, but we do face many problems and conflicts with the Arab world.

Some of those conflicts are very much self-imposed... i'd hope it doesn't take another world war to fix, though.

Maybe I should have traded Vietnamese for Japanese though, but I've never actually seen something written in Vietnamese...

I still don't get how he will be running a serious risk of being racially profiled for having Arabic text on his back where it's not even visible in normal, everyday settings? Besides, the guy is a black man in America, he is going to face racial profiling either way. More so for that than having some random tattoo on his back that contains Arabic calligraphy.

If we all let prejudiced people dictate our choices in life, even over something as small as having a tattoo, then I guess we'd have to be constantly living in fear.

Anyway, I see enough people with Arabic text in their tattoos. I guess it's supposed to be "exotic" or something. Usually, the main issue seems to be mistranslated or misspelled words. I always see botched up ones show up on tumblr with people poking fun at them. Be careful OP.

You merely sensationalize whatever will justify your bigoted world view. Or at least, you try desperately. Thankfully many of us have the ability to recognize an idiot talking out his ass.

    You're not realistic, you're delusional.

Actually no. She thought the Hindus and Muslims were behind the 9/11 attacks. She pushed the guy because he was brown like most Hindus and Muslims, not because he was just Muslim.

    1.. yes

2.. you're right. I'm gonna give it until school lets out in may.

Be careful you don't end up with artwork like this

Never cease to find it strange

Well fuck me , that must mean that there have been gullible trend-followers for many thousands of years .
If in doubt just check out any of the national geographic channels , furthermore whether you like or don`t like them the use of the word artist is correct .

If you are scared of the commitment, then you shouldn't get it. Period. When you are not scared of the commitment, then you should be fine.

Being fucked up as hell when you get a tattoo is a good recipe for getting a substandard tattoo. Tattooists regularly deal with morons. If you want the artist to take you seriously and not dismiss you as a moron, you ought to be sober.
