    2013 Massachusetts Special Election

Might as well start up this topic since it will happen when John Kerry is appointed Secretary of State.

The election will be sometime in June assuming he is appointed in January after the 180 days "campaign".

Rumor has it that Barney Frank will be the interim senator until the election.

The first Democrat to step up to the plate is Ed Mackey and he is not very well liked in the state [Harry Reid lite]. A lot of MA residents want a younger person to run because Warren is already in her 60s and may get 2 terms out of the ordeal. Course Brown will likely be the GOP nominee.

Kerry shouldn't count on getting approved. He's too eager.

Senators seldom vote against one of their own. The Republicans hope to capture his seat. Of course he will be confirmed.

Who will oppose Kerry? Republicans maneuvered to make him the candidate and he is a democrat?

I appreciate your enthusiasm Max but this topic wont take off for the rest of us until they have a slate to choose a D candidate from and then after the candidate is chosen when either Brown or the D say ignorant shit on the trail.

    Time the bump this thread.

The breaking news is Scott Brown is NOT running for Senate and is probably eyeing the governorship in 2014 which would be an uphill battle.

This opens the race wide open for the GOP.

Oh lordy, the GOP is really grasping at straws. Ann Romney has hinted that she may consider running for senate. Since Tisei and Weld are out of the picture that really have nobody to field. Their best chance IMO is to have the GOP ballot stuff Lynch's name in the primary to make him beat out Markey.

Given MA's lax requirements for holding office, the basic requirements set by federal law are the only requirements to be in office here. Hell, Mittens had to fudge his tax returns to say his primary residence was in MA while he was governor. So basically any person could run for MA senate as long as they meet those requirements. Winning is a whole other factor.

Now, Tagg Romney is considering a run for the Senate seat in MA.

His father lost the state (allegedly his own place of residence) by 23%, but Tagg thinks he can win?

Not sure what's going on here.

Well to be fair, the Republicans are forced to put up a candidate regardless of how good they are. Nothing says "our party sucks" when you can't even field a candidate for a senate seat. Congress is a different issue when you have districts heavily gerrymandered.

Does Tagg Romney live in his parent's basement or was it Mitt was living in Tagg's basement when he registered to run for gov in Massachusetts?

Since he wanted to assault the President of the United States he shouldn't be allowed to have a political carreer. He can ride his Daddy's coat tails the rest of his life. Like grandfather, like father like son. The Romney tribe mistakenly believes the world owes them.

Well, I keep trying to come up with breaking news, but can't get it synced. Y'all are always coming in first. Anyway I liked the line "Tagg. your it" and my spell don't know who Tagg is.

    http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2...d?ocid=twitter

    More: Is Booker too thin-skinned?

MASSACHUSETTS: The Boston Globe lists five Republicans who could run for the Senate seat now that Scott Brown has decided against a run – former Gov. Bill Weld, former Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, state Rep. Dan Winslow, former state Rep. Karyn Polito, or FOX News contributor/talk show host Dr. Keith Ablow.

The Boston Herald adds a name to the mix: “Tagg, you’re it for GOP Senate hopes.” From the story: “Tagg Romney is considering a run in the special Senate election now that Scott Brown has opted out.”

What surprises me is that the Romney clan believes the world wants them!

First, Ann suggested she might run, and now Tagg. Do they not understand that the Romney name makes their political aspirations problematic?

It is staggeringly arrogant. And the whole family seems to suffer from it.

No offense but that is [insert personal insult here]. I just helped elect a Kennedy to Congress. He marched in the Boston Pride parade and I have even seen his sexy ginger body running through Brookline once when I was on a call.

Nobody wants them. It's their mammoth egos driving them to run for office. Everything has been handed to this family on a silver platter and they believe they deserve a position where they can tell large groups how they will live their lives.

Unfortunately their rabbit-like breeding habits will create yet another generation of those who believe they deserve everything.

It's the gilded age all over again.

Tagg Romney is out which removes the embarrassment for the GOP but Kerry Healey [Romney's lt. govenor] is rumored to be wanting to run. The GOP is looking in the recycle bin at this point which basically gives the seat to Dems.

Oh jeez this will be a riot. Apparently the GOP found its guy and he is more left than Stephen Lynch. Daniel Winslow. Just looking at his record, he seems affable atm and would vote for him over Markey.

He is a Cutey.....Hmmm...I guess I missed his speech at the Convention..Very interesting that you voted AGAINST Obama and claimed you did so because you knew he'd win the State...But you were more than happy to help this new Kennedy kid when you knew he was leading in the Polls and would win his district regardless of your vote...

^cuz the alternative to the Kennedy was a teabagger.

I do hope that Winslow gets the GOP nom for senate. The sad part is he is more left than Stephen Lynch who has already flip-flopped on abortion and gay marriage.

Random civics fact of the day: cities and towns are not the same thing. Cities have an elected mayor whereas a town has a board of selectpersons that govern it.

If he's Italian, he is a definitely a North Shore boy. I made a post about it in the ranting topic.

I will say, I do miss the Jewish delis of Brookline.

I just think the amusing part is that many on Fox did not like Brown and referred to him as a RINO. I hope he doesn't become a brain dead shill and actually engage in some discourse.

That killed his governorship intentions though so he clearly sought more value in Fox. Besides as a former senator, he as benefits for life so why should he care?

This isn't surprising. Fox News is a republican job agency..... where failed republican politicians go to eke out a paycheck for a few years after their political career collapse.

I doubt that whoever gets elected will have any impact on your second home in Cape Cod, somehow.

    QFT!

But don't tell him that, I'm sure once he realizes that truth it will be worse than the bursting of the American Housing Bubble.

Ego over and superiority over finances my Dear.

Confidence is sexier than a hot bod and a nice package at some point, cut him some slack!

But you're a Canadian who prefers fresh creamed butter over real creamed cheese, so this Texas Boy will have to do with with living under Republican Rick Perry as Governor, and the Tea Party Corporate Hacks fucking the shit out of the Republican Controlled Texas Legislature while the two of you fight over reservations at the less than Tony eating establishments in Manhattan.

Never regret anything, because in that moment it's exactly what you wanted.

The funny part is, the Cape is one of the liberal bastions of MA. You could put a dead guy on the ballot and if his name had a '-D' attached, they would vote for him. It's the main reason I can't stand many of the brain-dead "progressives" and why I pray Markey doesn't get the nomination because that is the last thing MA needs. Republicans have a similar problem too and it's why I went independent or as my state calls it "unenrolled". The area between the 495 and 95 belts is the most conservative [and wealthiest] part of MA where you get a lot of blue dog democrats and libertarians [where I come from]. That area is what delivers Republicans wins in the state if you look at any election map.

Some tards gave me flak for voting for Lizzie Warren but talk about standing up to government corruption...

    Well HEY!

Here in Texas they were/are called YELLOW DOG DEMOCRATS.

Sadly all that they seem to do is to vote Democrat, and are never vocal or free with campaign contributions when it really matters.

As a Texan I'm already embarrassed that our new Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz is beginning to make headlines, both in the news and on the Daily Show.

The local major media markets; Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, and San Antonio Editorial Boards paid more attention to his stupid ass headline making comments than his positions, while ignoring any real opposition presented by an experienced legislator with a D associated with his name, and here we are in the U.S. Senate.

Even AFTER the editorial boards recognized their mistake; after the Texas GOP Primaries, and BEFORE the Texas State Wide Senatorial Election when they all endorsed Ted Cruz's challanger Democrat Paul Sadler, it was too late.

Some tards gave me flak for voting for Lizzie Warren but talk about standing up to government corruption...

Get some sleep tonight knowing that you made the right vote.

What American Politician who wants to get elected to the United States Senate talks like that and expects to get elected???

Certainly not in the third most populated state in the Union (Texas)!

So be proud of your choice.

    I am.

If you want me to be candid about my "business education" I received from one of the more conservative schools in MA...

It was embedded into our minds that if the NPV is greater than 0 to settle than to be litigated, including intangibles, that you should settle. I agree with this statement on a numbers basis but on a moral basis, I find it disdainful.

I personally think that "our leadership" in Washington don't want to bite the hands that feed them.

So law and jurisprudence, and what is being "taught" in the halls of our Nation's Colleges are about as inane as the concept of "Liberty and Justice for All."

*waits for the Greatest Nation brigade to march in and tell me to leave America*

Let me remind you that the "cheating scandal" at Harvard was for the class "Intro to Congress".

I will admit that for some shitty Microsoft Excel class at my college, that we would cheat off of one Indian woman's scantron for the weekly homework assignment. Thank God that the professor was a complete dunce who was ESOL. About 30/35 us got an 81 [21/26] on one of the HW assignments and the teacher thought nothing of it.

Ironically, my class' book was "The Cheating Culture".

I assume NPV stands for Net Present Value?

Some lawsuits are undertaken to set a precedent and therefore represent a value that may not be readily quantifiable with respect to a currently pending dispute.

I am also curious to understand how this relates to the Massachusetts Special Election?

Alcohol is a truth serum like sodium thiopental.

Why scantrons are still implemented as "take homes" is the own professor's stupidity.
