CEP is not a "news story you found interesting" bulletin board. It is for discussion of current events or those events to which JUBbers find interesting. We all have a variety of search engines at our disposal and probably twice as many news web sites. So the idea is that you present a personal perspective. That idea of course is codified in our CoC.

I saw this one article about Terrell Smith last night and I noted the shooting was on the 16th and the funeral was yesterday. I googled the name and I was annoyed that I couldn't see anything of a motive and or killer. Though this morning I found a video uploaded by Terrell Smith's company.

I was surprised there was little info on line and I thought perhaps a shooting in Chicago may not be uncommon. Would a JUBber know about Terrel Smith and his GLBT work? Should I post it in "Hot Topics" or in "Current Events"?

Sadly the idea of someone being shot in the US is not such an unusual item that it receives much coverage. While this shooting may be of interest because he was a gay activist that still makes it no more remarkable. Whenever I think of violent cities I think of Atlanta in the eighties. The local news started with shootings (two or three stories) proceeded to stabbings (two or three stories) and then had odd ones like body found in car or fished from river. That was every single night with different victims. At some point you stop giving a shit or it eats you up.

I just did a Google search for shooting death and found 2.5 million results.

Perhaps a Chicago Jubber could help you out with details but I have no idea.
