Because in every race-themed thread about dating and preferences on JUB that I've seen, blacks and Asians are told to get the fuck over others not finding them attractive because it's simply down to preference.

I highly doubt that most JUBers would be banding together to label people racist for saying that the men of certain African countries are ugly. It would be once again "down to preference." Even from other PoC who, like you, aren't even attracted to people from their own race or ethnicity. Let's be real. Why would it be an exception this time around? What makes black Africans so special that people would preoccupy themselves with not hurting our feelings in this thread when other blacks are constantly told on JUB to get over these things?

If the subject is about people making tacky or insensitive jokes about Indian culture or mocking Indian customs, then by all means I am open to hearing about that but in the looks department, do people generally find Indians less attractive than blacks? No, because the closer one is to a European standard of beauty, the higher up you are in the beauty hierarchy because that is what is currently dominant and people, especially in the West, will be drawn to that...The thing is, it's more common to find Indians who fit into that standard more easily than it is to find blacks so who do you think it effects more? But, yes, blacks and dark skinned Indians do have similar experiences when it comes to being ostracized for their skin color.

It is down to ignorance about Africa. Like I said, not only were African countries not mentioned for ugliest but they were also not mentioned for hottest (aside from me, a black African, who mentioned several). African countries were just not on most people's radar in this thread when it comes to beauty. At least Indians are better than being a non-factor here.

Second I love dark features, dark skin, dark eyes, dark hair, the same way I enjoy fair skin or blue/green eyes, blondes or redheads. When I was younguer I didn't appreciate very much far east Asia guys but the older I get the most I appreciate the beauty of all ethnicities. Unfortunately you don't get to know many gay black, arabic or asiatic guys in Spain, especially in small cities.

Geography is certainly in the eye of the beholder. I doubt the imaginary lines on the grounds that separate people determines attractiveness. It is and always will be about skin color and the stereotypes attached to it. I doubt any of the JUBbers who have stated their preferences (very non-racist of course) are well-traveled to even make such assumptions. You are basing on what you see, hear or sometimes smell.

Perhaps maybe we can hear why the least attractive nations are least attractive. Low GDP? Intra-tribal fighting? Don't like their current political structure? Sure they are markers of beauty.

There is a thin, dotted line that separates preference and being plain racist. I can't tell if these JUBbers are racist but deep down they will know. And I am sure they will still sleep fine.

I'm extremely attracted to Arabs... including the darker ones. But most Indians don't do a thing for me.

I also prefer black men over Indians and I'm sure you can find many here who have the same taste.

If you prefer blondes over brunettes or the other way around... very few will consider the root of it to be dislike or hatred. I know skin color is more of an issue but it shouldn't have to be.

I think exposure over time is a huge unnoticed factor in attraction. You notice a lot of people say they are attracted to black men when the west in general has a lot of long generational lines of black people living in the west. You take generally more recent immigrant groups-- Southeast Asians (Cambodians, Vietnamese, Thai etc.) or you take people from around the subcontinent (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) where most of the time if you know any at all they were recent immigrants with poor English or ran ethnic enclave businesses downtown and generally few people will stand up in a crowd and go "oh mah gawd I love guys from Cambodia."

Give it a generation or two when people who are kids or being conceived today grew up around culturally assimilated people from India or Thailand and there will be fettishes for those ethnic subsets too.

Nevertheless, there's a lot more positive social and cultural attitude in general about long-established groups vs. recently arrived groups. They'll be more included in media, television, advertising, they will have more of a public voice, they'll be more in front of cameras and seen.

When your experience of x group is one overweight smelly sweaty 45 year old guy running a convenience store, of course you aren't going to have a broad stereotypical attraction to that group. When his sons are in your male swimwear advertisements it may be a different story.

You are absolutely right, there is not much representation in the media. And when there is, it's often riddled with stereotypes.

However, there is still normal, everyday exposure to East Asians and South Asians for many people in Canada, the UK and Australia. To write them all off as unattractive doesn't make sense to me personally (they have beautiful and ugly people just like any other group).

Unfortunately, for PoC, the stereotypes about them in the media do hold a lot of sway with many people (especially those who don't have much IRL experience with them) and it does impact how they're viewed not just in terms of attraction but in general. I'm sure for Asians, especially the men, this factors in to people's preferences. I agree.

It's a taste based on average.

Just like I usually like guys with blonde or brown hair more than guys with black and red hair... but it's an average taste rather than a rule. There are exceptions.

So far I've never met a eastern Asian man I was attracted to. But of course I can't say it will never happen.

It's a pretty big genetics thing with Polynesian/Pacific Islanders. There've been a lot of studies with Samoans and how almost regardless of diet they will average heavier weight than someone of another background on similar diet.

I have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out why Americans have such a huge problem with obesity. I can tell you that in my day--the 60s and 70s--we had a much lower rate of obesity.

I looked at a lot of factors. At one time, I believed that agribusiness's practice of adding steroids to meat caused obesity; at another time, I believed that the low-fat diet craze brought it on.

In the end, I've decided that America suffers from high rates of obesity for one simple reason--food is cheap. You can get a whole chicken for about $3 (about 4 English Pounds, or about 3 Euro).

I believe that human beings have developed a predisposition to overeat, based on cavemen's propensity for feast-or-famine conditions. That fact, added to the cheapness of the food, spells disaster for Ameicans' waistlines.
