Eric Cantor was smiling ear to ear when they left the meeting where republicans pretty much determined there would be no deal... not that they would outwardly say that BUT if they cant pass their own bill chocked full of republican give aways then there is no hope for a bipartisan bill.

Cantor is getting a bigger office I am sure he is happy as a pig in shit.

HA, until all the taxes go up and that job is anathema.

Personally, I don't mind going back to the Clinton era tax rates.

Well if Cantor gets the job the taxes will have already gone up.

I don't mind all of America paying the bill either but i really prefer the concept of strategic cuts and well though through taxes. Expiration of the Bush tax cut, payroll tax and Alternative Minimum Tax along with a trillion in arbitrary cuts will force this country to 10% unemployment once again... if they are sustained for the year.

they will not be... growth was steadily rising... as unemployment numbers rise and the economy stutters the new congress and the President will make a hasty slap shod bill and patch work their way to the next standoff.

Wait -- they're calling Cantor "moderate"?!

That's kind of like calling Frankenstein's monster "striking".

If all the Bush cuts expire, watch for cardboard shoes and newspapers for patching roofs.

    Re: John Boehner's Future

Boehner has two possible futures: to be remembered as an ineffective dishrag, or a statesman who risked his career to do what was right for his country.

To have any legacy at all, he's going to have to work a deal with the Democrats as his base and see if he can find enough Republicans with sense to make it go.

BTW, if I lived closer, I think I'd make me a mock-up of a portable X-ray machine, dress up as Diogenes, and go prowling the Capitol when Congress was around.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ha

    What a maroon.

The guy is a joke. Although in fairness, all he and the Goppers have been working on for the last 6 weeks are 'Designed to Fail' options.

So rest easy folks. Things are as they ever were. The tax cuts will expire...to the relief of all the Republicans as well as Democrats...who can now all complain about one another for the next 23 months in the lead up to 2014.

The draconian spending cuts will push the US and the rest of the world back into a deep recession which will result in the Republicans never being elected as anything but dog-catchers after Obama just signs orders for more stimulus spending.

But over the next month, watch the US try to soothe the battered nerves of world investors by admitting that Ha Ha....it wasn't a cliff after all...it was necessary medicine.

    Good times.

someone said it on line this morning--the current GOP is a group of tribal leaders (think Iraq or Afghanistan or some other 3rd world country) who are anarchists and religious freaks with an 18th century mind set---and are not going to listen to a central leader like the chain smoking, cocktail guzzling, John Boner---
