Gingrich Declares Civil Marriage Equality Inevitable

While refraining from an endorsement of same sex marriage, Gingrich has declared civil marriage equality a 'reality' that momentum favors. This is in contrast to recent remarks stating that gay marriage is a 'temporary aberration.'

What prompted this turn of view? His lesbian sister Candice? His married gay friends in Iowa? This year's elections? Who knows?

But this is a sign that GOP leaders are willing to accept a place for gays in civil marriage, or at least accept the movement's inevitable change on America's legal and social fabric.

What that says to me is that a lot of GOP beliefs are dishonest, and they are kept from declaiming their true beliefs because of party radicals who would defeat them in primaries.

You're right, a competitive Republican actually running for high office saying this would be news indeed. Still, Gingrich is aware that he is a celebrity, and that this revelation will have an impact.

One might wish them to keep funding hate groups until they have no more funds.

yep - i have thought this for sometime now and the loss of the 2012 presidential election and senate meltdown would provide the impetus

you however after the election were filled with not joy but vitriol for republicans and claiming they wouldn't learn - they would never learn

    now this

which one do you believe ?

Well he is just one Republican after all (an influential one yes). Let's see how a lot of them vote in the states where the legislatures are poised to take it up.

Glad to see this, but he also stated he felt it would be tough for the right to sign onto...even compared to immigration reform. However
more conservatives, at least those with a practical eye for governing, are moving in the direction of marriage equality. Gingrich did point out a difference between civil marriages licensed and recognized officially by the state vs religious , church based marriages where presumably no denomination would be forced to perform same sex marriages. The practical aspect of having a marriage officially recognized by the state , however, is the most important thing and he's on board with that.

I have never heard of a case where a denomination is 'forced' to marry a soul in straight marriages. Why would that matter in gay marriages? usually the couple has to be counseled by the minister before the minister will grant them the marriage ceremony. The discretion is the in the clergy to decide if they will perform the duty not required by law. They may discriminate as well... hell in Catholic church you have to take a test to 'convert' if you hope to marry into the cult.

Still you are correct the more right wingers consider something inevitable the more likely it will be occurring much more mainstream.

The most important thing is that the anti marriage equality wedge on the right is about to collapse as even steadfast foes
are seeing attitudes rapidly shifting towards support for same sex marriages. People see their gay relatives and friends as individuals they care about who deserve full equality under the law.. they see gay men and women and their loved ones living their lives in love and support and the bigots are increasingly out more and more on the fringes. It's good to see more people in the GOP...even in conservative Democratic communities coming around towards acceptance, even support. Still a ways to go, however....religious die hard rightists won't be swayed so easily as even Gingrich attested.

Yes. Even once states were required to honor mixed-skin-color marriages, many churches didn't go along.

BTW, I've decided that Gingrinch is a rancid douche who dirties any cavity he contacts.

I actually wish they had the integrity to go extinct while maintaining their petty hateful principles, rather than do a smarmy, slimy, self-serving, two-faced about-face in an attempt to carry on.

But if they could have mustered any integrity in the first place...
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did. And like Michael Piemonte. And Joseph Wilcox.

You mean, when he was going after Clinton for getting blowjobs, the GOP turned a blind eye to Grinchy's philandering, but now that he's speaking in support of homosexuals, the GOP is now making his cheating an issue?
