What is your earliest memories of life?

Another one of my earliest memories of life was playing with my grandparents' dog, Jack. Other than these two memories, can't remember much of things that happened when I was a baby.

I remember hiding under the Christmas tree and then falling asleep and nearly knocking the thing over when I woke up. I must have been 3 or 4. Everything before that is fairly fuzzy.

i remember being in a car i believe in a baby seat or in the backseat not entirely sure which one with my parents driving around brooklyn. there was some jazz song playing in the background from the radio of wcbs fm (when it was around, dunno if it's still on the radio). i remember the melody of the song to this day BUT i do not know the name of the song or the person who did it. still hear the song time from time randomly. i also remember the smell too. that old fabric smell too. i also remember being so small that i was looking up at the car door and at the window with the buildings passing by too.

then there was preschool at happy land day care and then that one in the brooklyn museum where my bro and me were playing on that piano like how tom hanks did in that movie big. that's some of the things that i recall. there's more though.

I remember the layout of the house I lived in until 5, but we moved away. I once wrote out a diagram of what I think the layout was and was mistaken by a lot, the rooms that I remember in my mind are not in the same place. The first memory I can remember is 1st grade, but it's fuzzy. I can't remember 2nd grade at all or my teacher's name, but I think I know where the classroom was.

Haha, I cried when we had our lunch with our parents in kindergarten because my mom couldn't stay the entire time . They got my older sister to come sit with me so that I would stop (she was in first grade at the time).

I remember plenty of things from being younger, but I cannot place them on a timeline relative to each other. I don't know what my earliest memory is, but I remember being tossed in their air by my dad and my mom yelling at him for throwing me too high..

And I remember getting my head stuck in between the bars on my grandmothers balcony on her deck..

And I also remember when my sister fell asleep with gum in her mouth and it got in my hair instead of hers ಠ_ಠ.

gosh.....I can only see the pictures taken of me at young ages such as 1 or 1 and half or 3 or so.....but don't remember them. perhaps the most vivid is of me and a young girl at about 2 and half or 3, the 2 of us holding hands like best of friends, I remember her, us being friends, but beyond that....very sketchy memory other than the photo taken of us.

I went mental. The other kids cried too but I was the most dramatic. It was like attending a kindergarten in Auschwitz.

I couldn't tell you my exact age, but it was before I'd started at kindergarten.

If ever I adopt, I'd want him/her to be a teenager. I can deal with angst, but I'm not sure how well I'd handle the mess a baby/toddler can make. Plus, I'd probably drop it or something.

I think sometimes people confuse memories with stories that were told to them and from seeing pictures.

I used to have a memory of almost drowning as a small child, but my family said it never happened so the memory went away. Maybe it was from a past life.

I do believe the your earliest memories can be adulterated by second-party stories and the brain mixing up certain details.

In this case, I have never remembered something so clearly and consistently in my life. That shit scarred me.

I'm sure I remember my old grandfather at my granny's house, and he died when I was 3. And I remember when we moved into our house when I was 4. And I was fascinated by car number plates and I remember when the 'W' registration came out and that was just as I turned 4 too.

Oh and my parents always had music on and had 'Top of the Pops' on the TV - I must have been gay from an early age because I remember liking ABBA () and the release of 'The Winner Takes It All' and 'Super Trouper' - that was also when I was 4.

Then my mum had to come and collect me an hour later as i'd wet myself.

Quite a few but the ones that I very clearly remember about 3 I think, was when I was riding my bike and then accidentally fall into a drain. Lol. My nanny freaked and quickly rescued me up and clean me up.

I remember we had big pine like trees in the garden, with passiflora growing all around it, it was nice when the fruits were up... back in Europe at xmas time (we would travel back and forth) I was persuaded xmas tree with coloured balls were imitations for my Abidjan garden tree since passiflora wouldn't grow there...

I must've been 3 or something. My sis, a year older and I used to live on the top floor of a three storey building with our grandma. She kept the door locked and had a key hung on a hook by the door. We stare out of the window, and see cranes over the tops of the houses as we had a dockyard in our town. Granny used to tell us to behave of those giant moving cranes would bring the lightening and thunder to scare us.

I remember many things, but like reone, I can't put them in a timeline in which they occured.

The one that stands out the most was when I was in the first grade. I had been complaining about having a stomachache for awhile but nobody really paid attention. One day in school I collapsed and they rushed me to childrens hospital. They found a hole in my stomach, basically an ulcer. In the evenings when my stomach would hurt, my dad would sit me on his lap in his big chair and just rub my stomach while we watched TV with the family. I know it had no medical value but somehow that made me feel better than any of the medications the doctors had me take. Thanks dad.

I vaguely remember being moved through the open end of a crib, at some point before or after my tonsillectomy. That was in a diary that my mother kept (for one year only), so I can actually sasy I was 3 years 5 months old.

I remember playing in a pile of boards, and my penis was hurting. Turns out it was just after my circumcision (so at least I must have been "under" while it was done, that would be dozens of times worse), but I have no way to slap a calendar date on that, but I'm thinking it had to be later. (I do NOT regret being circumsized!)

But the oldest memories I can feel pretty high confidence about, is hearing MUSIC. (You too, refuji...) This'll date me...I remember hearing this song:



I would have been about 2 & 1/2 years old.

I remember other music from 1950 and certainly, by 1951, I remember music as definitely current. I have doubts about actually remembering some 1950 stuff in general, because songs like Tennessee Waltz and Mona Lisa were probably often played on the radio for at least a few years afterward. But "Chinese Mule Train" is NOT the kind of song that would have been played on the radio a year or two later.
