We all know that being gay is not a choice. We are stuck with it
What type of person you are attracted to is dependant on a lot of factors and the prejudices you are brought up with has a huge influence.
For instance, if you grew up with a red neck father denouncing the fairies on the box you would, understandably, want to avoid effeminate men.
I grew up seeing long haired men as possibly gay because I knew a few who were. It is therefore logical that even now I find long haired men attractive.

There are a couple of users in this thread that seem to think one term applies to gay men while another refers to straight men--which is shamelessly incorrect.
By and large drag queens ARE gay and TV's ARE invariably straight

Of course there are gay TV's but I can promise you there are NO completely straight drag queens who perform regularly

Why are guys so turned off? I don't consider myself like a woman at all. I just see drag as an art form: where makeup, hair, sewing, dance and acting all intersect. I just do it for fun and I only go out in the look when I'm performing. I don't see it much different than a clown.
What is the big deal? Would you ever date a queen?
I do not hate drag queens - I see them as entertainment. Personally I am (not for myself) sexually attracted to them because I like men - not men dressed as woman- it is simple.

I prefer real men - simple....

That's your opinion. The Drag Queen Label covers a whole spectrum of people just like the Bisexual Label covers a whole lot.

Re: Why are gays so turned off by drag queens?

I had a friend who used to do drag back in the day and he used to score all the time. Usually with sexually ambiguous guys in the toilets of Arq but still. Some of his hook up's were hot as hell.

I don't frankly care if a guy does drag or not. I've known a bunch of drag queens in my day and both and in out of costume they're usually beautiful.

For those saying they wouldn't be able to get the "image" out of their head, I'm not really on your page with this. That's like saying "Oh I could never date a Birthday Clown, all that make out, outlandish costumes and wigs, I'd never be able to see them differently.

I think it more boils down to the belief that drag queens are "women" and therefore not Masculine enough. Frankly I think that's a load of horse shit, but you see that sort of nonsense all the time. Log into Grindr or Scruff. The amount of profiles of Str8 Acting masculine men after a "real" man outweigh the ones where people say "be you, be comfortable, don't bother acting anything, we're not in the closet anymore".

The Gay Community as a whole is made up a wide variety of people. There's no reason why we should all be cookie cutter replica's of each other, but when you look at the groups trolling the gay ghetto's in any town like attracts like. It's just the way it is.

That is the point. It shouldn't
Drag Queens are a very specific type of entertainer. There is no spectrum

Well, personally, speaking as a drag queen, I find it a beautiful art form, and I often find other drag queens who I admire, love, and/or feel a physical attraction to.

Doesn't make me any less of a man (though I completely understand why other guys wouldn't be into this stuff), and it certainly doesn't lessen my attraction to MEN. I just...kinda like playing dress up with them occasionally.

Personally I like guys, so I'm turned off by guys dressed like women, because If I wanted to fuck a woman,I'd find a woman.

This ^^^ (except most of them are actually gay)

People that find Drag Queens feminine never met one or they never seen one of their show.
A Drag Queen is a caricature of a woman, their act is meant to make people laugh, they are asexual, they are like real life cartoon characters, they are not there to seduce you.
They are deliberately clumsy, and they are so vulgar and over the top that I am amazed anyone could remotely think of them as feminine.

Being a Drag Queen is mainly a job, you don't see many Rupaul lookalikes going to the supermarket to buy some broccoli do you?
That's because generally Drag Queens leave their alter ego on the stage, during their daily life they are normal people.
Few of them are straight, most of them are gay, some feminine some pretty masculine.
Bottom line is that Drag Queens are fictional characters, they are not supposed to turn people on.
Hence the OP question/observation is pretty much redundant.

I wonder, then, what you would make of UK's notorious Alex Reid, a bi man who cross dresses AND cage fights?

Thanks alot................my father was a clown (shrine circus), now every time I see a picture of him in his clown stuff I'll wonder "was Dad secretly a drag queen?"

If I liked the guy and there was a connection there for us, I wouldn't care what he did. Drag queen or IRS worker.

I date/love the PERSON, not their career or what they do for fun after work, etc.

I'd say for those who would shun dating someone because that someone is a drag queen, says a lot about that small minded and shallow person as a whole. Speaks volumes, really.

I'd say it's personal preference, shrug. As many people have discussed in this thread, it's not like snubbing someone because they might secretly watch some Star Trek. It's for many people a large lifestyle choice in terms of it encompasses a lot of their social circle and free time and what they do with it. I probably couldn't make a relationship work with a fanatical NASCAR fan either... I don't think that makes me shallow.

I love GOOD drag queens. Just too much fun. Although I have never dated one. To be fair I like twinkies, Ho Hos and other sweet treats and usually twinks arent drag queens... not always but usually.
