Have you ever put something back in a store in the wrong place?

I used to wonder why I would see items on shelves where they didn't belong. What was that pork pie doing in with the bath cleaners or perhaps some blueberries in amongst the rice packages etc. Even chicken packages left in the underwear section Who in their right mind would do that?

But then one day I found myself not wanting a certain item and put it back right there where I realised I didn't want it. I could have gone back to where I got it but for some reason just wanted to dispose of it there.

    Shopping behaviour is weird huh?

Asda/Walmart is too big to take things back to where you got them, just sneakily dump them wherever.

It happens sometimes, but mostly with clothing that I pick out and later change my mind about without wanting to go back to where I got them from.

There is actually some sort of vandalism going on at our local Wal-Marts.

Things are obviously and maliciously being relocated systematically all over the stores. Socks are put in the orange juice freezer, dog food is placed in the baby clothes, writing supplies are dumped it the furniture aisle. It is obvious that it is a deliberate act of contempt.

I've wondered for months if it might be malcontent employees, ex-employees, punks, or perhaps a social awareness group targeting Wal-Mart.

In any event, I'd love to catch one doing it and then out him.

I used to do it until I started working at grocery stores and having to have to find all the shit people put in the wrong spot. I mean sometimes I get it - even I don't have the patience to find the exact spot a certain product goes at times. But c'mon people. Putting eggs on the same shelf as Drain-O? Ice cream with the toys? Seafood in the same refrigerator as the 20 oz sodas? That crap annoys the hell outta me nowadays.

I'm very guilty of this. Especially whenever I get to checkout whilst grocery shopping and I decide that I don't want x item. In which I just stick it near the candy or chips, although I wouldn't do this to items that require a freezer.

Interesting....but they would probably catch it at out self-checkout or if they didn't discover it at home. Oh no...I wouldn't do that...

Of course, though with items that must be refrigerated I usually put back at least where it can stay cold.

Yup on both accounts. But if the item's "home" is close by, I'll return it properly.

My mom would do this and it would drive me insane. I make a point to put things back where I got them from. I think it's incredibly lazy to do otherwise, especially with items that will spoil if left out of a freezer. I've never worked retail or at a grocery store, but I've worked with people, and I think that has really taught me how small things aren't really all that small for some people. When people do that all day long with one or two items it really adds up. I put it on the same level as being polite, and saying please and thank you to waiters and waitresses. It's just an easy thing to do that really doesn't cost you anything.

^ Exact same... consider it a lack of respect of someone's work to just dump items in random places.

Re: Have you ever put something back in a store in the wrong place?

no..I won't just put an item anywhere...that's inconsiderate.

I take the item up to the register and tell the cashier that I decided I don't want it. They typically have carts/bins up at the registers for items people don't want and when it gets filled, a clerk re-shelves it in the proper place.

I've hidden DVD's/blu-rays that I couldn't afford yet in the wrong sections at video stores (i.e. Target, Best Buy, etc.) so they'd be there when I got back next time. I usually do that when there's only one copy of something left that I really want bad.

    Otherwise, no.

I have done this before but I am also OCD. If I am looking at a bunch of veggies and I am taking a moment to decide what i want.... I will probably face the out of sorts cans and tidy up the veggies I am looking at... lol

I never thought of the other persons cart thingy... but I did think the bag girl shorted me an onion the other day... until I found it in the back seat of my truck...

I spent too much time working in retail to even consider intentionally putting things in the wrong place.

I have... not really a big deal unless you're ruining an item (eg: leaving a can of soda in the freezer section, or leaving a carton of ice cream on a random shelf outside)

Re: Have you ever put something back in a store in the wrong place?

Ive hidden dvds that I would leave store for and come back when I came back with more money

I ditched danish at the checkout. I bought donuts and didnt need both

This is sick BUT I HAVENT DONE IT, I wanted to put playgirl photos in a childrens book. Give mom some extra time to explain what the photo was lol

Ive wanted to set all clocks to go off at the same time

Or throw a ringing alarm clock on the top of the hard to reach shelf

I thought I was getting cruised by a guy once. He was obvious.
He was a store detective and thought I was stealing groceries because I had a sport bag with me. I explained thats how I take my groceries hone and all the clerks knew who I was.
I should have said "you suck as a store detective because I saw you following me"

Unfortunately my cat killed a bird and I thought about dropping the body in a store. I thought it would be funny but again, I didnt do it

I am ashamed when I find other people do it. It makes me feel guilty to think another has to do extra work because of my indolence.

Definitely annoyed by it. Especially when people would put the item in the wrong spot when the right spot was only a few feet away anyway. So, coming from someone who works in the environment, I don't do it.

amen sister I work in a grocery store to people are lazy instead of walking to end of a isle and putting a pack of chicken back in the bunker they will just leave the pack on some dry goods dripping blood everywhere that why people get sick cause don't think im going to be following u around with alcohol wipes cleaning up after lazy people

I don't do that and it pisses me off that so many others do.

I always wonder what happens to the chilled and frozen stuff that people just randomly dump on non-chilled shelves; does it just get put back in the freezer section even though no one knows how long it has been sitting there?

I usually put them where they belong especially at a grocery. I'd feel bad leaving grapes or something where the soap is.

I might have when I was younger but not in years. When I go to any store I know exactly what I want and that is what I buy. If I do pick up an impulse item, I'm sure I want it, at least until I get home.

No. I'm obsessive about this for some reason. I'll always take shopping carts back, too. Even putting them in the parking lot stalls seems like cheating to me.

This is USUALLY what I do, unless the proper place was nearby and I went ahead and returned it to its proper place. I've seen other returned items sitting at checkouts (including seeing people in front of me run out of money and put stuff back), so I figure the stores are prepared for that.

I've done that sort of thing before, too...and it usually works. But the last time was probably 30 years ago. Sometimes if I was running out of money and wanted some music I couldn't afford, and it was only a couple things, I'd stick them in a Perecy Faith section or something...G-Lexington can probably relate to this...he's seen this before I'm sure.

Having worked this type of store, I'll simply say that roughly 90% of people who do this never come back for them. Thus leaving Shaving Ryan's Privates in the documentary section where nobody will find it. So when someone asks the shop if they have it, they get to do the "well, the computer SAYS we do, but..." game. And they'll find it when they do inventory next year. We used to call it "If I can't have it, none of you fuckers can have it."

You could have them put it on hold. But that would mean talking to the employees. Fuck that shit.

There was a lady that came in within an hour of closing gathering like 2 carts of stuff. When she realized she didn't have enough time she asked if she could leave the carts there and she'd be back in the morning. My shift Manager then told me that she has done this a few times before and she never comes back in the morning. So before I left I had to put 2 full carts of stuff away.

I was in the next morning, she didn't show up. Luckily I only experienced this women once.

On rare occasions, I see something intentionally humorous. Someone at my local grocery store turned all the boxes of pineapple upside-down cake mix upside-down, as well as the plastic card showing the price. That at least made me smile.

I've only done it when I'm annoyed at the store... like I went in to get three things, found the first thing, but they didn't have the other two; or I only wanted two or three things, found them, and then got to the front to find ninety people in line and only two registers open. I wouldn't do it to perishables, though, that's rude and wasteful.

I did before but now I just take it to the cash register and tell them I'm gonna skip that one.

It's not your job to take them back but I think it's more polite to do this than just dumping it at a random shelve.

If its just a small grocery store, I usually put them back. If they are really huge and had different sections, I would give them to the counter.

I do this frequently when it comes to Walmart, clothing stores, and book stores. Something will catch my eye to where I have to return my last item, but don't want to walk back to where I got it. I feel bad about it afterwards though.

I occasionally switched DVDs around at Blockbusters.

Comedy ends up in the horror section. Horror ends up in the family section. Oh you're soooo evil!
