See the ignition on my car went out. I made about 6 trips 3 miles down the road to get it fixed, walking, in the process I cut my finger pretty bad and I finally asked some neighbors if they had a tool I could use. They in turn said no problem, as they were smoking pot and I'm sure I inhaled enough to get silly. Anyway one of them got my car fixed therefore I got on line. See? No problem.

I saw the Christie on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

What endeared me to the Governor of New Jersey is his sharing with Jon Stewart, who's from New Jersey himself, his experience as a fellow 'Jersey Boy' meeting "The Boss."



It was sincere, genuine, and real.

So yeah, I found a respect for Republican Governor Chris Christie that I don't find for most Republicans.

There are times when I really like Christie. Hell, I'd be tempted to vote Repub in the primary just so we could get him as the GOP candidate instead of that nutjob Rubio.

I just saw the interview, and agree with the positive sentiments. Chris Christie is not a typical Republican, and I don't get the impression that he is a partisan hack. I think he is the number one contender for the Republican presidency and the greatest threat to Hillary Clinton in 2016. I disagree with many of his policies, but I think he has the potential to be a good Republican president (which can mean good and bad things). He is also a likable person, and his blunt answers are honest. I also don't believe that just because he's fat, that it's fair to criticize his weight or use it as a vice against him in running for office. If he were to become president, it wouldn't be a disastrous thing for this country like it was under Bush or could have been under Romney.

That being said, he is not a man I will support. I still hold it against him for being the sole individual to veto marriage quality in the state of New Jersey. Thousands of gay couples have been denied their rights because of him. Remember what he stands for.

Gay people in New Jersey don't have rights because of themselves.

Instead of taking Christie's bargain for a vote on gay marriage (which would have passed in New Jersey!), they demanded perfection. As a result, they were left sitting on the sidelines while Minnesota and Maryland, two states that are probably more socially conservative than New Jersey, voted for the pro-gay positions with respect to their ballot measures.

All because of some idealist bullcrap about how we shouldn't put our rights up to a popular vote, when in fact our rights being put up to popular vote has become the irreversible status quo in our society.

Christie, while I really don't like what he did with the marriage equality veto has never been a hater on gay issues...he did strongly back civil unions, and has supported strengthening them. I did once too, but it was pretty quickly clear civil unions aren't enough, they couldn't really establish equality under the law on many things straight spouses enjoy as legally recognized marital benefits. I agree with razor, the momentum in New Jersey would have resulted in a majority for passage and Christie did promise that the results would be honored and not hampered by the state if marriage equality passed a public vote.

Christie may have doomed himself with prominent conservatives though for acting like a concerned governor, not a mere partisan flack in the waning days of the campaign as Sandy deservedly had his full attention. No way I want to see him turn sharp left and do a Crist..what a political whore. I do like it that he remains independent and sensible and isn't hesitant to stand up to the hard right when he can....he may be one of the best candidates going into 2016 for the GOP, but for now is persona non grata with much of the right and it's not clear anyone without their stamp of approval(either by ideological rigidity or running cynically to the right) can get the GOP nomination anymore.

Also as far as fat goes... I think it is responsible to criticize him for being fat. The country is placed into turmoil when the leader of that country dies unexpectedly. Christie is morbidly obese which means he exponentially increases his health issues. Thereby putting the stability of the entire country at risk.

Also, remember a little Republican called Dean Skelos? He was opposed to SSM but allowed a vote on it in the New York Senate. Now that is something that truly earns respect, not an appearance on a comedy show...

If Chris Christie were like Dean Skelos, and signed the SSM law, we would be having a different discussion. But we aren't...

More importantly, that's what Obama was like, emphasis on was. Obama also wasn't running against Chris Christie, so yes it is a false comparison in many respects.

Finally, Obama did take a lot of heat from the gay community for being against SSM, but now he is the most-pro gay president in history and the first to support SSM before an election.

If Christie is as smart as I think he is, he will work behind the scenes to ensure his veto of same-sex marriage is overriden. He won't want this on his record come 2016. Such a solution will be a win-win.
