How to take to take erotic photos?

I think that some people here will know how to take photos of guys, and I am looking for advice. I have some experience taking photos, mostly event photos of variuos University events in which I participate.

I want to take some erotic photos of guys that you typically see in magazines. See attached for the style, and example.

How do I get that and what is a reasonable compensation, and for what time frame?

Also, I am don't have a studio, I'm just a guy with a camera and some photograhpic experience and I want to get into taking some tastefully sexy photos of guys, maybe leaning towards erotic side. Any advice, tutorials, war stories?

I have posted an ad on Craigslist and got a couple of guys so far. One is excited about it and wants to do it, and I have a feeling that pay is not important to him, but he expects "a lot of touching" and "running around taking photos" and asking me if I have a "fluffer". This is all new to me. I am unsure how to take it, almost sounds like he is looking for more than a photoshoot. The other guy wants $200, which I have a hard time justifying just for a single photoshoot. That seems like a lot of money for 2-3 hours of someone's time, especially that I did not find him exceptionally hot.

So educate me, please. I really want to take some good quality tasteful photos and maybe show them off here as well. Thanks!

I'd say ask your friends to pose. You can get pretty erotic with only a couple of button left open. Forget your fluffer-seeking model and hold off on the $200 guy until your satisfied with your taste and techniques.

I like photography, too, and sometimes just walk around the city taking pictures. People usually don't mind, especially the tourists.

Yes, I'd forget about both of those models. There are a couple of ways to go. As has been suggested, I'd approach some of your friends first. Obviously you need to have a good idea of what kind of poses you want, and who is best suited and prepared to do them. Some may not have a problem with nearly nude work, but some may not feel comfortable with fully nude work and/or sexually explicit poses. I've used three of my friends for photoshoots for the drawings that I do. http://art-of-man.deviantart.com One of them was fine with nude work. The other two weren't comfortable doing nude work the first time, however after the first shoot, once they'd seen what I was doing - and that I was more interested in the right lighting and the right poses than I was in their dick, they did nude work for me on the second shoot.

Another option is to join http://deviantart.com - it's free - post some of your work and get networking with fellow photographers and models on there. Most of them are amateurs, and it's a really helpful and supportive community. I know of several people who pose for each other, do self-portraits (which is an option if you have the physique for what you want) and there are also tips and advice to be found.

Another option would be to seek out a local photography group or look at weekend/evening college courses.

And finally, if you're still involved with University, check with any like minded photography students, and maybe organise your own photography sessions where you might use the facilities and all 'chip in' to pay for a model.

Obviously, this will hone your technique, but they might not want to be taking the kind of photos that you want to take.

Lastly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you're planning on exhibiting, publishing or selling any of your work, make sure that you have your models sign a Model Release form (you can find examples on the net). This is a legal document that protects your copyright to the images and prevents future hassle should your model/friend have second thoughts about you using the images, or tries to take legal action to get a percentage of your profits etc. Obviously, if you wanted to you can include a financial deal in the contract, but you need to protect yourself.

I've done it a few times, twice answering ads on craigslist and another for a friend of a friend. The first CL guy was older, and he was clearly doing it for his own enjoyment. We did lots of speedo, jock and sports-gear shots, and also some tacky Roman toga ones. However he was extremely respectful and none of the shots required erections. He paid me $50 for a two hour session, which seemed fair as I wasn't professional.

The second guy advertized that he was paying something like $60 and hour, which should have been a red-flag. As soon as I got there it was pretty obvious to me that he was expecting to do more than shoot pictures. When I tried to leave it got real weird. He said "you really didn't believe we were just going to shoot pictures!", followed by "don't you think I'm hot?" (no. Fat and frankly fifty). I literally got myself between him and the door and then ran out.

The one for my friend's friend was a for a school project. Apparently my friend showed her my GRINDR pictures, lol! She fed me and gave me a bottle of wine. I was fine with that.

One further piece of advice you might not have considered... Regardless of format (on film or digital), you'll have to do whatever you need to do with the photos yourself. Most commercial places will not develop erotic pictures, so you may want to invest in some software for your computer for any digital prints, and search for someone to help you self-develop if you have film.

A real (and fun) challenge is to make a not-sexy guy look sexy. Can't understand why more people aren't into photography.
