Tell Perry to turn over control of the Texas Enterprise Fund, Emerging Technology Fund, and CPRIT funds immediately.

This thread is for Centexfarmer and TX-Beau and any other Texans out there.

I got this email about Rick Perry and his habit of sending our Tax dollars out to corporations that back him and the Pugs here in Texas. I really gotta stop calling them pugs. Pugs, the dogs, are cute, not so much the Repufuclatalibangervangelists. That probably needs work.

Sign our petition and tell Rick Perry to turn over control of the Texas Enterprise Fund, CPRIT, and Emerging Technology Fund today.

When we first brought this issue up, Rick Perry's only response was to say we were conspiracy theorists. Now the facts are out there, and Perry and his staff are silent. It's time they speak up for Texans and not business. It's time we use our hard earned dollars to build a better future for Texas, not give huge gifts to corporations and donors.

We need to keep up the pressure on Governor Perry and the Texas Legislature to do the right thing. A recent front-page story by the New York Times found that the state gives up to $19 billion to Texas businesses a year - with questionable effects. From the story:

The free flow of tax breaks and subsidies in Texas makes it particularly fertile ground to examine these economic development deals and the fundamental trade-off behind them: the more states give to businesses, the less they have available in the short term to spend on basic services, a calculation made more stark by the recession.

To help balance its budget last year, Texas cut public education spending by $5.4 billion — a significant decrease considering that it already ranked 11th from the bottom among all states in per-pupil financing, according to recent data from the Census Bureau. Yet highly profitable companies like Dow Chemical and Texas Instruments continue to enjoy hefty discounts on their school tax bills through one of the state’s economic development programs.

It doesn't have to be this way. Sign our petition and tell Rick Perry to turn over control of the Texas Enterprise Fund, CPRIT, and Emerging Technology Fund today.

The more activists we have identified, the more pressure we can put on the press to highlight the issue and on lawmakers to change the law. It's never easy, but it's work we have to do together.

Now I think this will be the link to the petition.

    End Perry's Corporate Gifts

Corporations don't need your tax dollars, and Rick Perry shouldn't be allowed to hand over your hard-earned money to his donors. Yet in recent years, Rick Perry has sent hundreds of millions of your tax dollars to his political donors through the Texas Enterprise Fund and the Emerging Technology Fund.

Each of these funds has been under tremendous controversy since Perry created them for a lack of accountability, a failure by the Governor's office to produce accurate data that tracks the funds' performance, and for case after case of one of Perry's donors benefiting from his corporate gifts.

Sign our petition and tell Rick Perry and the Texas Legislature that you need your money more than corporations do!

This sentence from the above I will see if I can find it at NY TIMES.

DALLAS — The Preston Hollow neighborhood has been home to many of Texas’ rich and powerful — George and Laura Bush, Mark Cuban, T. Boone Pickens, Ross Perot. So it is hardly surprising that a recent political fund-raiser was held there on the back terrace of a 20,000-square-foot home overlooking lush gardens with life-size bronze statues of the host’s daughters.

The guest of honor was Gov. Rick Perry, but the man behind the event was not one of the enclave’s boldface names. He was a tax consultant named G. Brint Ryan.

Mr. Ryan’s specialty is helping clients like ExxonMobil and Neiman Marcus secure state and local tax breaks and other business incentives. It is a good line of work in Texas.

Well the email IS from Progress Texas.

What did you expect, an announcement for a Pinto Bean Chili Cook Off with the Governor "Good Hair" Perry presiding?

I checked your link and you're good!

And I signed the petition, shared it on Facebook, and I'm sure it's a matter of seconds before I get a thank you email and end up on everyone's email list.

Though I've been a member of ProgressTexas.org for years, so hopefully I'll only have to delete every other "support us" email for awhile.

    Thanks for sharing.

No one can possibly serve as Governor for as long as Rick Perry has, and still claim that they're in it for "public service."

The man was making less than $30,000 a year when he entered into "public service" as an elected Democrat, and now he's a Republican, and now he's a Millionaire.

    Go figure.
Never regret anything, because in that moment it's exactly what you wanted.

The friendly Red states that have low taxes? They also ranked among the lowest in education as well. Everything comes at a cost
