Another "national treasure" dies at 92 (birthday tomorrow).

Thanks for all your music over the years. Good job, Dave!

I can't believe that more people aren't posting their regrets at his death. Is it because his body of work means he really is never dead...or is it that no one remembers his magical music?

I think I'll always remember seeing him play live when I was in high school. His music has definitely become a part of my life... he was such a cool cat.

I really liked his work. That said, one of my jazz-loving friends said "Brubeck made music for white college students who think they like jazz".

Fantastic musician. He did some wonderful tunes in interesting time-signatures ... Take Five (in 5/4), Blue Rondo la Turk (in 9/8), Pick Up Sticks (in 6/4), Unsquare Dance (in 7/4), World's Fair in (13/4) ... I have great respect for any musician who breaks out of the straightjacket of 4/4 and still manages to compose great music.

I think it's that in today's world of mostly GARBAGE "music", there is no real talent such as his and I certainly wouldn't expect that a majority of this generation or the one before, etc. even know who the man was or what he contributed as a REAL TALENT in the world of music and artistry. I missed the news about his passing altogether -- and not sure how that happened, as I cruise so many news outlets on a daily basis. Guess the lack of global, international and national coverage shows you just how overlooked his passing must have been.

    Sad indeed.

Rest in peace Dave. As someone else already put it "Take Five".

Nothing I like more than a good wine, some candles and warm lighting, a comfortable space, a good friend or two, and some awesome, powerful, jazz-bluesy Brubeck carried through the air around us ....... a good warm feeling for all.

Everyone should know this man's work. They'd all be better for it for sure!

Just amazing --- if this doesn't invoke some sense of emotion, feeling in you, then well, I don't know.....

His name may not be recognized due to generational gap that affected Jazz music as a whole. You go to any Jazz concert and you won't find many people born after 70s.

Absolutely correct. I thank my parents for bridging that gap with me and my brother as far as art and music go. They made sure to expose us to all the great stuff while we were growing up so we have an appreciation that is spread far and wide, not just the very narrow vision of what passes as music/art in today's world.

I'm 27, call me old fashioned.

Yeah, but he sure ain't no Madonna.

All joking aside, he was just brilliant. What a great musician.
To change the world you must change your mind.
